So why wasn't anything done sooner?

Depends on what you get. When we were up for my parents anniversary
celebration last year, we got a good idea from one of my cousins. He's
got enough health issues that he's not driving. His son in law had a one
step stepstool to allow my cousin to get in and out of the van easier.
We brought one up to use with my mom in December but the combination of
the snow and her broken wrist made it less of a winner of an idea than
we'd thought. If we get up there this year in good weather, no broken
bones, maybe it will work out. As is, the Escape is easier to get in/out
of and more comfortable riding than their VW Passat or my in laws Buick.

That too, but it had picked up some heat just sitting in the fridge for
a few days.

I understand there's a question on if it'll be ready at the beginning of
the fall season or not now.
