Ärende: RE: well water
======================
Hey Ruth!
->
-> -> hn> survive more than a year, so she made
-> -> hn> lots of arrangements in advance.
->  hn> ->
-> -> Sensible woman. My grandmother survived just a bit short of 7 years
-> -> after her first stroke. All the while, tho, her mind was deteriorating
-> -> so it was good that a lot of decisions were made early on. My parents
->
->  hn> Anne's mom was a sensible woman.
-> hn> Did great raising her three daughters
->  hn> to be smart strong women...did a less
-> hn> than stellar job on the one son...who's
-> hn> turned out to be pretty much useless
->  hn> at almost everything...except being a
-> hn> bad example. Seems it was her one
->  hn> weakness...she just could not let
->  hn> go of him.
->
-> Is he the youngest? Sometimes an only male lat child is the hardest to
-> let go of. Her husband obviously didn't object to the situation but it's
-> having repercussions now.
->
Essentially he might be looked at
as the youngest. First three kids
were in a group, Anne's older
sister, Anne, and then the brother.
15 years after Anne, along came
the youngest sister (who lives out
here in WA as well). So Brother
was the youngest for a long time.
Dad, did object...but to no avail.
and rather than destroy the family
he finally gave in. Brother was
happy to be useless and have
anyone else do his labor for him.

-> -> able to change to village water relatively easily. I'll miss the ice
-> -> cold (even in summer) well waater tho.
->
->  hn> There's something about well water.
-> hn> When I was a kid the well water
-> hn> on my grandfather's farm was Ice COLD
-> hn> even in hot humid Tennessee summers.
-> hn> When they converted to an electric
-> hn> pump on the well...they ran the
-> hn> pipe through the rootcellar before
-> hn> it came to the house. Kept the
-> hn> stored veggies nice and cool even
->  hn> on the hottest days...and we
-> hn> kids used to get into trouble for
-> hn> sneaking into the rootcellar to
-> hn> cool off on hot days!
->
-> My parents don't have a root cellar but I know what you mean about a
-> cool cellar on a hot day. I'm presuming we'll get an update this week
-> but they were to have a plumber in to do some other work (previously
-> scheduled) and have him take a look at the situation. I think they were
-> hoping to get access back to the well water without a lot of fuss,
-> bother or expense.
->
My grandparents had a HUGE garden...Probably most of a
city block in size. My Grandmother and Aunts did a
LOT of canning and preserving each year. The root cellar
was huge, and dark and full of shelves and dark cool
corners...a great place to spend a sultry humid afternoon
in the deep south. Eventually they put a lock on the
door to keep us kids out...we had a tendency
 to knock over a shelf now and then...

-> -> We talked with Rachel, Robert and Sarah just a bit ago. Steve said that
-> -> Sarah should have been named Gabby as she does like to talk. (G)
->
-> hn> It's wonderful that you can have a good
-> hn> relationship with her even though
-> hn> you are far distant!! Shades of
->  hn> Dick Tracy!!
->
-> It's nice that the grand kids know who we are so we're not total
-> strangers to them. David's parents don't have Skype and they can't get
-> out to LV very often. Because of David's job, they can't come back East
-> very often either so Robert & Sarah don't know their paternal
-> grandparents as well as they know us. Sarah was (correctly) identifying
-> colors for us the other night. The Skype screen showed the rust
-> (persimmon) colored sweater I was wearing as red which was easier for
-> her to name. She's a pink diva. (G)
->
If they have Gmail (it's free) and can get a
webcam (I think the one I got for Anne cost
about $40) they are in like Flynn! Even if you
don't have a webcam you can live chat..and
they could at least see the grands (David's
computer has a camera).

-> -> hn> Cool! I know they have em for
-> ->  hn> mice and rats...didn't know about
-> -> hn> one for Ants!! Does it work on
-> ->  hn> uncles too? (grin)
->
-> -> Steve said it's not ultrasonic but works on the same principle. We're
-> -> seeing a few more wander in now with the weather warming up & drying
-> -> out, maybe they're the uncles.
->
->  hn> Looking for valentine's presents!
->
-> It's a running joke with us that I usually get my Valentine's present
-> the day after. Steve dropped a perscription off today and brought home
-> 2 boxes of half price chocolates. They're put up away from the ant's
-> paths of travel.
->
We tend to "low Key" Valentines day.
we give each other gifts and things
all year long (grin)..

-> Steve was grilling burgers for lunch today and noticed another tree that
-> didn't look to good. After checking it out, he called the landlord who
-> agreed to have it taken down. More sunlight out back, better chance of
-> getting grass to grow into a proper lawn and sunlight for a garden.
->
Grow your own eggplant!! Cukes!! oooooh 'Maters!!!

-> -> hn> yes indeed! and I was really happy she did!
->
-> -> Did you feed her some chicken soup?
->
->  hn> More of a stew...nice and thick!
->  hn> Also a goood roast beef!
->
-> And she appreciated both of them, I know.
->
-> -> hn> Good timing to put out feelers and look
->
-> -> -> That's part of the long range plan.
->
-> -> Even if it's one that only God knows of now. We stumble thru each day,
-> -> trusting He will show us more of the picture as we go along. Sometimes
-> -> it's only a nibble, other times it' a bigger bite.
->
-> hn> We make our plans on the information
->  hn> available to us...he has a bigger library
-> hn> than we do! (grin)
->
-> For sure, and I'm glad we don't read all of the books at once!
->
I don't want that library card yet!!
chat with you soon!
