I think that the placement of the flags comes from old Hollywoods where 
the Ambassador's limousine is usually portrayed flying a miniature 
country flag from the front fenders/mud guards.

Some in funeral processions, especially those in soccer-mom mini-vans 
place the flags on the roof above the driver's door since they have very 
little in the way of front nose area, and that sloping sharply downward.

I often wonder at people going the opposite direction who pull over and 
stop - because they think that there is some law or other that requires 
it. Or who will not pass a slow moving funeral procession. Fie on them. 
Fie, I say. That sucker is dead, I am alive and have a life to get on 
with. The honoree in the procession is certainly in no hurry to get 
anywhere.

I always beware when out on my motorcycle(s).

It's just a matter of self preservation, really. I am not nearly so 
bullet-proof as I was when I was under 30 years old.  Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Passover Beet Preserves
 Categories: Vegetables, Preserving, Citrus, Nuts
      Yield: 12 servings

      3 lb Fresh beets
           +=OR=+
     32 oz (2 cans) shoestring beets
      1 c  Sugar
      4 oz Blanched, shredded almonds
  1 1/2    Lemons
  1 1/4 c  Honey
      1 ts Ginger; or less, to taste
 
  Boil, peel and grate fresh beets on large grater, or
  use shoestring beets. Bring sugar and honey to a
  rolling boil; add beets, lemon juice and rind. Cook 30
  min. Add ginger and cook until thick, about 30 min.
  longer. Add almonds, cook for 5 min. stirring often.
