That's about what we figure. My folk's staircase is straight up, no
landing. We've mentioned that the seat folds up; really need to do some
follow up but school work and health issues have precluded it this past
week or so.

Yes, and they live in a small town with one grocery store and a couple
of convenience stores. They think the prices are high at the stores
there so they try to do most of their shopping when they go to Kingston
or Oneonta. Trouble is, especially in winter, they end up postponing
their appointments if the roads don't look good or they're not feeling
good so they can't do the stock up shopping. They also do other shopping
before/after the appointment so by the time they get around to doing the
grocery shopping, they're tired out. They also want to get home before
dark. Dad will take a "ride 'em" cart but Mom either sits at the front
of the store or walks, holding on to the (regular) cart for dear life.
Trying to maintain their independence as long as they can but it gets
scary at times.
