Ah. I thought perhaps exercise might improve things to some
degree, as in the case of Father William (I imagine him as
a sort of Glen type), who

 I didn't get to chew it often as a kid so it wasn't any
 RH> great sacrifice to give it up.  If I did get any, I preferred the mint

Sure do. There are sites where you can get such things -
Teaberry, Pepsin, Black Jack, and so on. I think the
Vermont Country Store offers a surprising range of
nostalgic products at not too horrendous overcharges.

And a distressing color it is, though they say that if you
have enough iron in your system, the dye doesn't shed to a
great degree. For me, there's this issue of my bleeding
anyhow, so I'm rather vigilant about that. Freaked me out
the first time I had a substantial quantity of beets, and
I had red leaking out of just about everywhere. For a
second I thought I'd gotten some weird hemorrhagic fever.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Spicy Green Papaya Salad
 Categories: Tv-food, Fruit, Salads
      Yield: 3 servings

MMMMM--------------------------DRESSING-------------------------------
      3 tb Soy sauce
    1/4 c  Sesame oil
    1/8 c  Rice wine vinegar
      1 tb Ground white pepper
    1/4 ts Cayenne pepper
           Juice of 1 fresh lime
      3 tb Sesame seeds, toasted

MMMMM---------------------------SALAD--------------------------------
      2 sm Green papayas , julienned on
           Mandoline or regular papaya
           Diced small
      1 sm Red onion, small dice
      1    Red pepper, small dice
      4    Scallions, finely chopped
    1/4 bn Cilantro, finely chopped

  In a small bowl, whisk together all the dressing ingredients.

  Place salad ingredients in bowl, pour dressing over top and mix well.
  Season to taste. The salad will hold up in the refrigerator up to 24
  hours. Serve at room temperature.

  Yield: 3 cups dressing
