Thank you.  Engineers who become "company men", under the control of
accountants do tend to become like them, and thus lose their souls and
ethics in the quest for the best bottom line.  Of course they can't
look you in the face any more when know they have saved a few cents
here and there by taking short cuts in safety procedures.  (Can you
tell I have been reading about the reasons for the succession of
accountant-run BP's disasters around the world?)

My own career has been much more fun, as I have mainly been the "big
fish in the small pool" and have been let loose to do things my way.

  The derivation of the word cocktail is almost lost in the mists of
  time, but it is known that the first reference to a mixed rum drink
  goes back to the days of Sir Francis Drake (1540-96). There was a
  Mexican tree known as 'Cola de Gallo' or 'Cock's Tail'.
  
  Pirates would infuse the roots of this tree in illegal, raw rum.
  Another possible derivative of the word cocktail comes from the
  French inhabitants of New Orleans, who imbibed a mixed rum drink
  known as 'coquetier', which was shortened to 'cocktay' and they would
  stir the drink with a tail feather of a fighting cockerel. Another
  explanation is that from the effects of the drink, one's tail perks
  up, rather like that of the cockerel. There are probably thousands of
  ideas as to the origin of the word cocktail, many no doubt
  exaggerated,by over-imbibing the subject matter itself!
  
  There are about 250 rum-based cocktails, made from the hundreds of
  varieties of rum from the Caribbean. Colour does not necessarily
  denote the strength of a rum, but most of Cuba's rums are not very
  dark and not very strong. They are, however excellent fo vary as to
  the origins of the Daiquiri, but it is most likely that the American
  mining engineer Jennings Cox invented it when he was working in a
  small town of the same name in 1896.
