Kinda what I was getting at... and as mostly my travel in the region is
to points south, and back home again...

And only steeper now, as the route is being transmogrified into an
Interstate...  Fortunately, there haven't been too many bad storm
incidents in my years of traveling that corridor...  ;)  It's
preferable, in my book, to traveling I81 for that north-south routing. 
At least one gets out of the mountains sooner, and follows a river for a
good chunk... somewhat more moderate weather that way...  :)

Abundance of caution, certainly...

And in that case it wasn't even all that far in the distance.  And yes
it was scary, but I didn't have much option at that point but to
continue... fortunately without incident to me... ;)  Mostly I looked at
it and said to myself, that really looks ominous, is it really what I
think it is, hope not, better keep going...  :)  And then, when I was
pretty much free and clear of the affected area, found out that I should
have been even more scared...  ;0
