I'd pulled it from a "Parade" insert to the Sunday paper; wanted to try
it before we determined it was a keeper or not.

Yes, my mom does put butter and salt in her mashed potatoes. Cat
probably liked it as something different from the dry kibble and water
that were his normal diet otherwise.

My dad knew how to cook; his mom had a weak heart and was bedridden when
he was in his teens. He got the job of cooking because his older
siblings were out of the house and his dad was working. This was in the
30s.

Repair man isn't usually the builder. Military housing would not have
gone for the stilts. Crawl space, possibly but not in those quarters.
