Ah, to be 29 again. I would have thought, until this week,
that I could periodically pretend, but as it turns out I've
become hypersomnic, heading to the comfort of under the
covers at 11 and not rousing myself until dawn. This may
be due to the unholy cocktail of heart medications I have
to ingest daily. But perhaps I'll try YZF again just to see
what's what. How much does a cheap hotel cost there (I
wouldn't want to impose the 29 and single lifestyle on
your household, even though you know it well).

There are relatively few of these. I admit that with
the advent of 20th-century medical care, there are more
than there used to be.

That's the only sort I enjoy and the only sort I make. Part
of it is that the cornmeal is boiled beforehand, which gets
rid of some of the nasty sandiness, and its eggy aspect
almost redeems it by counteracting its bread aspect.

MFK Fisher's southern spoon bread
cat: starch
yield: 1 batch

2 c cornmeal
2 c boiling water
10 ts butter, melted
1 ts salt
1 1/2 c milk
3 eggs, separated

Add cornmeal to water, stirring constantly. Add butter and salt
and stir well. Mix in milk. Beat egg yolks and whites separately
until light. Fold yolks into batter. Fold whites into batter.

Pour in buttered baking dish and bake at 350 for 1/2 hr.
