========================================================================
Aloha Ruth!
->
-> -> I go mild to medium-depends on how well I know the cook's definitions
of
-> -> mild, medium and hot. The one Indian place in Raleigh we ate at Steve
-> -> ordered medium to hot & said later that medium was hot enough for him
-> -> there. I ordered the same thing, mild to medium and it was a good heat
-> -> level for me. Next time we go, we'll know to order medium and mild &
-> -> it'll have enough spice for both of us.
->
-> hn> Indian spices are often quite different
-> hn> than other ethnicities...or so it seems
->
-> Each ethnic group has a different definition of "hot" in their spice
-> vocabulary. You wouldn't get a Tex-Mex hot in India, nor a vindaloo one
-> in TX.
->
Yep, sometimes it seems to me that
different peppers have a different
"heat effect" on me as well...I "get
used" to one and then when I have a
different combination it's like a new
heat all over again!

-> hn> to me...I made the mistake of ordering
-> hn> extra hot at a Goa'n run Indian place once,
-> hn> and only once! They like their food firey and
-> hn> what I got was really some sort of live
-> hn> fire hidden in a vindaloo! I was able to
->
-> Should have asked the server. That's what we usually do in a new to us
-> place.
->
Sometimes I'm that smart.....
but most times I go for the HOT....
sometimes I pays the price! (grin)

-> hn> eat/enjoy it but felt the fire for almost
->  hn> a day after!
->
-> Real staying power to that heat. It's what you want in cold months to
-> warm you up. (G)
->
I could have melted snow in the parking lot
with that level of heat!
->
-> -> Anne won't even use black pepper!!
->
-> hn> -> -> Even my parents use
-> that--but not much beyond that. Onion salt & garlic -> salt are the 2
-> biggest "spices" used there.
->
-> hn> -> hn> I try to convince Anne to be a
-> bit more hn> adventurous in her dining and bless her, hn> she does try
-> somewhat...but she just hn> does not care for certain things (fish, hn>
-> heat, spicy) and prefers to eat a very hn> bland diet.
->
-> Same with my parents. I tried to get Dad to use some oregano & basil in
-> his spaghetti sauce but he used salt & pepper plus onion & garlic
-> powders. He also sauteed some onion and 3 year old chopped garlic that
-> had been kept in vinegar (without rinsing it). OTOH, I used my usual
-> trio of Italian herbs, pepper, fresh garlic powder and some fresh onion,
-> sauteed, as well as black pepper, no salt. Mine was the hands down
-> favorite.
->
Anne likes bland...but she calls
it "Subtle flavorings"

-> -> a cheese & pepper topped chicken breast that's good. Peppers have
had
-> -> just enough bite to them to go well with the cheese & chicken.
->
->  hn> I think if they'd combined the
-> hn> super hot jalepenos with Anaheims
-> hn> or even bell peppers it would have
-> hn> worked better for me...but my best
-> hn> guess is that those peppers were
-> hn> an abnormality and they would not
-> hn> have been as hot if I'd ordered the
-> hn> dish again some other time.
->
-> The cook might not have realised they were extra hot peppers. You would
-> probably not get as hot a dish if you do order it again.
->
Most likely true! :-0
->
-> -> hn> what they expect to find. Just "going in
-> -> hn> and having a look around" is not enough
-> -> hn> justification for me to agree to surgery.
->
-> -> That's basically what was done on my foot a few years ago. Didn't
-> -> really fix anything and I had a nasty reaction to the anesthesia to top
-> -> it off. The foot I broke (and rebroke) in HI 5 years ago will always be
->
-> hn> Unless they have some specific
->  hn> recommendation, or have a better
-> hn> than "good" idea of what they will
-> hn> find and know that they are able
-> hn> to improve my situation, I'm not
-> hn> going to consider surgery unless
->  hn> as a very last resort.
->
-> Talk it over with them really good.
->
They'll talk...I'll listen....probably!

-> -> hn> If they have a good idea of what the
-> -> hn> problem is, and what they can do to
-> ->  hn> "fix" it, I'll listen.
->
-> -> Got a referral for a 2nd opinion lined up?
->
->  hn> Not at this point...but I have lots
-> hn> of options and am in no hurry to
->  hn> have the knee whacked on...certainly
-> hn> not before the end of the baseball
->  hn> season anyway!
->
->
-> No surprise there. (G)
->
I'm just adjusting my schedule
so that I take an extra day off
when we hare having a long home
stand.

-> -> hn> You would have found the petrified forest a
-> ->  hn> tough task for you...unpaved paths
->
-> -> Sigh! On a good day I'd give it a try. If I'd been on my feet a lot
-> -> already, nothing doing.
->
-> hn> It would have been too rough for
-> hn> someone with a mobility scooter as
-> hn> well I think. Basically it was a hiking
-> hn> trail through the woods in very
-> hn> hilly and rough terrain. I think it
-> hn> would really improve the whole
->  hn> experience if they'd at least
-> hn> pave a path that would be
-> hn> more accessible to folks who
->  hn> aren't mountain goats.
->
-> Sounds logical but our definition of logical doesn't always make sense
-> to others.
->
Yeppers! But it's sort of in an
out of the way place and I'm
not sure how much business
they do over the course of
a year...it may not be worth
the expense of getting a paved
path put in and maintaining it.

-> ->  hn> point (the souveinier shop) I bought a
-> ->  hn> fossilized clam!!
->
-> -> Costing you some clams. (G)
->
-> hn> a mere bag of shells! (grin)
->
->
-> And it' sitting on your shelf right now.
->
Why yes! It is!!
chat with you soon!
