Hi Janis,

>> hahaha know what you mean there.. :) I think I went with the Futura
>> 350 since it seemed you could import more external designs, but now I

JK> > I've seen ads for, and in real life (in store) Futuras but never got
JK> > into the technical details as I didn't need another empbroidery

JK> I can understand that :) As long as it works for you, that's what
 JK> counts.

Yes, I was reading over the basic manual aa few days ago and
understanding more of the technical details than I did when we bought
it. Still a lot more to learn tho. Steve said he would learn how to use
it and then teach me; I'm still waiting on his instruction. Maybe I'll
get it mastered and teach him some of the ins and outs. (G)

JK> > It is a nice one; some of the bells & whistles are co- branded
JK> features > with Brother machines.

JK> Yep.. and a lot of the attachments will fit either machine. I often
JK> use my singer attachments on my brother cs-90 (think that's the name

I bought a bunch of low shank feet to use with my Pfaff that I can use
with the Brother, and probably the Singer as well.

JK> > It's really neat, while working on an embroidry
JK> > project, when the bobbin runs out. The machine will pause the
JK> embroidery > work, wind a new bobbin and then go back to embroidering.
 JK> It also
JK> > rewinds the thread when it's done with a color.

JK> THAT is a real timesaver.. it does sound like the Athena in that
JK> respect <g>.. I just have to make sure I remember to start out with
JK> enough bobbin thread, and I'm ok.. It works well since with
JK> embroidery, I don't use regular thread.. I use embroidery bobbin
JK> thread to save some money on that aspect. I buy them pre-wound in
 JK> packs of 20 or something (g)

I've not tried the pre wound. We use the bobbin thread in the machine's
bobbin as well. One spool holds a lot (!) of thread; Steve thought it
would need replacing a few projects ago but it still has thread on it.

JK> > And we've been married for 35 years, 6 months and some odd days now.
JK> > Some even days as well. (G)

JK> :).. we're very close to that as well.. we married on Dec. 4th.. oops!
JK> ron just told me it's the 3rd LOL.. 1971. We have never really
JK> celebrated our "aniversary".. I don't know, it just always seemed a
JK> silly thing to do. :)

We go out to dinner usually. One of our wedding presents was an
anniversary cup (where both can drink at the same time, looks like a
woman holding a cup on a swivel above her head; her skirt is the other
cup). We used it a few times but haven't in years.

>> Ouch.. that sounds bad :( Is that where your wrists were broken? :(

JK> > No, I did that when we were in Berlin, back in 1992. The only thing
JK> hurt > was the car, a Pinto. We had it all loaded with wedding
 JK> presents,
JK> > heading from NY to NC and nothing was broken.

 JK> Glad to hear that.

Definately, considering we had a car load of breakables.

>> Warwick). My mom snuck notice to all our relatives in Scranton, so
>> everytone was there, though we'd initially planned a very small
>> today" LOL All worked out fine in the end though, and it was great
>> having everyone there after all :)

JK> > Sounds neat. Don't you know there's no such thing as a small Italian
JK> > wedding tho? (G) Ours ended up being rather small because a lot of
JK> > family (on both sides) couldn't attend.

JK> Ron's family was very small, so my family well outnumbered them.. His
JK> parents, his brother, 2 of his aunts, meanwhile my grandparents, all 7
JK> of my aunts and uncles and their children came from "my side" (g)
 JK> Yes, I agree, I don't think I've ever seen a small Italian wedding :)

Did you have pizzellas too? Steve's mom brought a whole lot of them. It
was a new thing for my family; I'd had them before. I met Steve's
parents the week end his mom and sisters hosted a shower for one of his
brother's fiancee. Mom had made a batch of cookies & put some aside for
me to take back to the camp I was working at. In all the confusion, I
forgot them. A couple of days later, they arrived in the mail.

>> have. I skip the boxthorn seeds (g). It's still a delicious broth
>> without them.

JK> > OK, it implies that the taste wouldn't be quite the same. I usually
 JK> make

JK> I expect it gives it a good depth of taste so to speak.

As good a guess as any. (G)

JK> > my stock with onion, celery, carrot, sometimes odds and ends of
JK> > veggies for soup that day; the rest of the stock is either frozen or
JK> put > into the fridge for other things (as needed) over the next few

JK> If I'm making broth for chinese cooking here's what I use:

JK> 5 lbs chicken backs (preferably both) or 5 lbs chicken necks
 JK> (preferably both)
JK> 1 large onion, peeled & roughly chopped
 JK> 3 scallions, halved
 JK> 3 carrots, roughly chopped
JK> 3 stalks celery, roughly chopped
 JK> 1/2 head garlic (about 5-8 cloves)
 JK> 8 slices gingerroot
JK> 1/3 cup mixed herbs (cilantro, basil, parsley, etc)
 JK> 5 black peppercorns
 JK> 1 tablespoon sea salt
 JK> 1/2 cup rice wine
 JK> 20 cups water (1.25 gallons)

You're much more organised than I am about how much of what goes in.
I'll have to try adding some ginger. However I make it, it is good.
Sometimes if I've got some stock in the fridge, I'll add it as well.
Seems to add just a bit more depth of flavor.

Catch you later,
Ruth
