It's like the parking lot syndrome... park in the same lot day after
day, and you end up forgetting where you actually did park today... the
mind remembers the previous spot...  ;0   Particularly true in hospital
parking lots, where one's brain is elsewhere's pre-occupied, and one is
becoming jet-lagged from too much hospital duty... and there never is a
regular spot one can just grab every day... :)

Maybe the meds need to be adjusted down...?  Older bodies often need
less than younger ones...

The first meaning was somewhat an explanation for why one might be given
varied shifts... but not always... sometimes it apparently suited the
company's purposes to just keep people moving to different shifts...
I've seen it done in hospitals, to spread the workload around... there'd
be a few that would prefer the overnight shift, some that would prefer
the evening shift, but not usually quite enough to cover properly, and
even those with seniority might be shifted around, too...  From what I
saw at Kodak, there wasn't much of that moving people around to
different shifts, you were just day, evening or night (first, second,
third) and if you moved to another shift it was considered a somewhat
permanent move..  Wegmans has a distinct third/overnight shift, with
many of the part-time employees getting hours anywhere in the first two
shifts, depending on scheduling.  The closest I've seen to "swing" in
the sense I've always thought of it was when Richard was at Home Depot,
where one day he might be opening the store and the next night closing
it... or worse, vice versa... no set schedule at all...

Yeah... maybe I should have worded it "years of being a crisis
counselor"...?   :)  Not sure if any of the counseling I got made any
difference, at least on that sort of functioning... ;)  It's the needing
to go from zombie to alert on a second's notice... but I'm sure that it
relates to the adrenaline cycles, in terms of the eventual fallout.. :)
