I haven't come across an assessment that error wracked but my Dad
once caught a break on an appeal. Back in 1947 my parents had
purchased a 16 X 24 log cabin, not because they were broke but
because of a severe housing shortage. Over the years they renovated
and improved on it, adding additions, indoor plumbing, wiring etc.
In 1967 Dad built yet another large addition and resided the whole
place. An assessor determined that there had been a major
reconstruction and assessed everything as new. Our taxes jumped from
$600 to $1200 per year. Dad appealed successfully by proving one
step at a time that the building was not 1967 vintage or even 1947
vintage but a succession of "lean-to"s added onto an 1824 structure
and so our taxes actually dropped down to $200, given the age of the
home.

I had to look it up. It's one of those deep laundry sinks suitable
for hand washing clothes often found in basements near the washer
and dryer prior to 1970 and after 2000 but rarely in between.

Despite the name this is a modern version of an old drink ...

  1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
  1 1/2 oz Dolin Blanc vermouth
    1/3 oz Pierre Ferrand dry curacao
      2 ds Dram Apothecary Hair of the
           Dog bitters 
           Garnish: Lemon twist

This smooth twist on the classic Up to Date drops the rye and sherry
in favor of Irish whiskey and Dolin Blanc vermouth. Instead of rich
Grand Marnier, I've substituted Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao.

Note: You can find Dram Apothecary bitters online. They're a bit
like Peychaud's bitters on steroids, with added notes of ginger,
herbs, licorice, wintergreen, and citrus. If you don't have them and
feel like MacGyvering it, use 3 dashes of Peychaud's and a few drops
of Angostura. The results won't be quite as complex, but it'll get
you in the ballpark.

Add Irish whiskey, Dolin Blanc, dry curacao, and bitters to a mixing
glass. Fill 2/3 full with ice and stir until well chilled, about 20
seconds.

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist and
serve.
