country to the city and discovered pizza, and Chinese take out and
met ethnic groups other than Irish, Scottish and English.

None of us have his level of discerning taste buds and excellent
memory (or the dedication to maintain logs and journals to refer
back to). I smoked for too many years to have really sensitive
tastebuds and according to friends and relatives I over-season
everything as a result.

We have all learned from each other over the years.

Speaking of tastes, I've recently picked up and opened a bottle of
Williams & Humbert Walnut Brown Oloroso, perhaps the best of a
limited number of sherries available locally. (You might have
noticed my recent whisky-sherry cocktail recipe which was a direct
result of that.)

Another liquor forward whisky cocktail that's on my to try list. I
just picked up the red vermouth today.

MMMMM-----Meal-Master - formatted by MMCONV  2.10

     Title: Vieux Carre Cocktail
Categories: alcohol, beverages
  Servings: 1

    3/4 oz rye whiskey
    3/4 oz Cognac
    3/4 oz sweet vermouth
      1 ds Peychaud's bitters
      1 ds Angostura aromatic bitters
    1/2 ts Benedictine liqueur
           Cherry for garnish

The Vieux Carre is a classic cocktail straight from New Orleans. It
was Walter Bergeron who created this cocktail at the Hotel
Monteleone in the 1930's, naming it after the French meaning "old
square" which referred to the French Quarter. This is still one of
the specialties of the establishment and sipping one at the spinning
Carousel Bar is a great experience. The Vieux Carre is a complex
cocktail that doesn't look quite right on paper but is stunning when
properly mixed.

Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir
well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish
with a cherry.
