      Title: Orange Chocolate Chip Pancakes

  1 1/2 c  All-purpose flour
  1 1/2 ts Baking powder
    3/4 ts Baking soda
    3/4 ts Salt
  1 1/4 c  Milk
    1/4 c  Vegetable oil
      2 lg Eggs, lightly beaten
  1 1/2 ts Grated orange zest
      1    Rounded cup semisweet mini
           - chocolate chips
 
  Accompaniment: 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened,
  mixed with 3 tablespoons orange marmalade
  
  Your mom probably told you that breakfast is the most
  important meal of the day, but who said it has to be a
  drag? These fluffy pancakes, flavored with mini chocolate
  chips and a touch of orange zest, make that meal fun. View
  more modern classics that are just like mom’s, except
  better.
  
  Whisk together all ingredients except chips until just
  combined.
  
  Heat a griddle over medium heat until hot and lightly
  brush with additional oil. Working in batches, pour a
  scant 1/4 cup batter per pancake onto griddle and sprinkle
  each pancake with about 1 1/2 teaspoons chips. Cook until
  bubbles appear on surface and undersides are golden-brown,
  about 1 minute. Flip with a spatula and cook other side,
  about 1 minute more. (Lightly oil griddle between
  batches.)

      Title: Oatmeal Scones
 Categories: Breads, Cookies, Desserts
      Yield: 18 servings
 
  1 2/3 c  All-purpose flour
    1/4 c  + 2 tb packed light brown
           - sugar
    3/4 ts Cinnamon
      1 tb Baking powder
    3/4 ts Baking soda
    1/2 ts Salt
  1 1/3 c  + 2 tb old-fashioned rolled
           - oats
    3/4 c  Cold unsalted butter; in tb
           - pieces
    2/3 c  Well-shaken buttermilk +
           - additional for brushing
 
  Not just for breakfast, old-fashioned oatmeal adds crunch
  and character to everything.
  
  Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to
  425øF/218øC.
  
  Sift together flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, baking
  powder, baking soda, and salt into a food processor. Add 1
  1/3 cups oats and pulse 15 times. Add butter and pulse
  until mixture resembles coarse meal with some pea-size
  lumps. Transfer to a bowl.
  
  Add buttermilk and stir with a fork until a dough just
  forms. Gently knead on a floured surface 6 times.
    
  Pat into a 9" square (1/2" thick). Cut into 9 (3")
  squares. Cut each square diagonally to form 2 triangles.
  Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet.
  
  Brush with buttermilk and sprinkle with remaining brown
  sugar and oats. Bake until golden brown, about 16 minutes.
