Ärende: St. Paddy's 336

We managed to do some damage to the auto in a low-to-no-speed
incident and had to visit the shop, which is New Englandy low
key and not shockingly expensive. Left headlight and left
mirror had to be replaced, total about $300, much but not
bizarre. We left the vehicle in the shop's care and walked to
the 99 across the street for lunch. This is an Irish-themed
New England chain whose standard advertising contains shamrocks
and horseshoes and such silliness, so one expects an overplus
of same on such a day. That said, but Clean Dave and I have
long appreciated the restaurants for their consistently decent
food and beer at consistently decent prices. Despite the St.
Paddy's handout menu, we ordered regular: Rosemary got fish and
chips with cole slaw; I was thinking of the brisket sandwich, a
special of the day, but it was described as both corned and
drenched in bbq sauce, so I backed off that and had a 6.5 oz
(99's own term) top sirloin with rice and corn subbing for
potato and veg. I remarked somewhat testily that I was not
Irish and thus had no reason to ensure there was anything
green on my plate, but corn was acceptable, as it is the
vegetable that is not a vegetable. The plate was just a buck
and change more than the special sandwich. It came out a
little more done than the extra rare requested; rice was a
spinach pilaf with extra celery and red peppers, not bad
though quite salty, most likely not offered to spite me; the
corn was that supersweet weirdness, from a can. The meat
itself was rarish, fatless, a little stringy but not
mechanically tenderized, reasonably tasty but more from grill
hei than from the goodness of the meat.

I was sort of apprehensive about the possibility, but luckily
Rosemary's fish (the lunch portion, one 3-4 oz piece, as
opposed to the dinner portion, three such pieces for a
couple bucks more) was not dyed green. French fries and cole
slaw, of which she ate all, so it couldn't have been bad.
She doesn't supposedly care for cole slaw, or indeed for any
head cabbage preparation.

Sam Adams was not green. For my refill, the waitress said,
I forgot to ask you if you wanted the first one green, so
how do you want this one? I said to surprise me, and she
said, you know what's going to happen. It came with a squirt
of food coloring that made the foam greenish but the beer
(as Sam is kind of brown to start with) a gross mud color.
Tasted pretty much the same, though.

The bad but not unsurprising news that the shop had to
special order the mirror, as this is a long-discontinued
model (the Dodge Vibe), so we limped out of there with the
old mirror held on to motor vehicle inspection standards
by copious wrappings of duct tape.
