==============
Hi Ruth,

-> And the prestige if you're on a D-1 team. They do have some players that
-> are bench warmers but usually called "red shirters".

 RH> A red shirt is different. That's someone preserving a year of
 RH> eligibility when they can't play due to injury, illness or grades.

I think they still get to practice with the team but maybe warm the
first row of seats in back of the bench. If I understand correctly, some
sports (basketball, not sure about football) are now requiring a year of
college before declaring for the draft. Those kids don't red shirt as a
general rule, just to say they got some playing time in college.

-> -> The only heir(ess) on both sides of the family? Today I wore a
 RH> pendant

-> RH> Our side anyway. I don't have kids, naturally, and Dad was an only
-> RH> child. No other claimants.

-> Is she developing any sort of cooking skills like her dad and aunt?

 RH> Seems to be. Mom's not bad either when she's home. She prefers a
 RH> tool box to a toy box, so cooking implements wouldn't be much of a
 RH> stretch.

Get her going as an apprentice baker for your stollen at Christmas so
she will be good at it when you have to give up making it.

-> RH> Most of mine never will be either, but you can't beat free.

-> Nope, but it did cost me a bit for a chain.

 RH> I've done OK on those too, but you have to keep your eyes peeled.
 RH> I've picked up brand new in box sterling ones for $5 a few times. You
 RH> can't buy a new clasp for that.

I'm not looking for a lot right now, thinking of trying to get some
10-12mm aventurine beads if I can find some green with brown at a good
price. Will also get some 4mm gold filled beads to alternate with them
and string my own replacement to what was stolen necklace. Other than
that, if something catches my eye, I might buy but it'll have to depend
on what it is, price, etc as finances are still tight.

-> RH> Sugar-free chocolate would be. Unsweetened baking chocolate? The
-> RH> Baker's stuff is right out; they kept the price the same and cut
 RH> the package in half. Sayonara, Baker's.

-> I like a bit of sweetness in my chocolate, not totally sugar free.
-> Sounds like Baker's did an extreme version of what a lot of companies
-> are doing--reducing the content but keeping the price the same. Grocery
-> store robbery!

 RH> Yep. Even graham crackers are now in a 14 ounce box.

All brands or just the big name ones?

-> RH> reshipped the pan to me. Then the original pan turned up, and it
 RH> was nonstick. It got shipped back. I think technically I could
 have kept it, but even if it had felt OK morally who'd want it?

-> Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing? I know, we've had
-> those "techinically I could have but.................." times too.

 RH> Got a quilting book a similar way once too. I hadn't even ordered
 RH> anything, but Barnes & Noble sent me a quilting book anyway. I
 could have just kept it, being unsolicited merch, but requested an RA
 anyway. It must have been an expensive book because they sent one.

Sigh! I used to demo/sell needlework kits and accessories. Every so
often I'd be shipped an extra item so contacted them the first time it
happened. They said to keep it, add it to my demo kit. It was usually
something small but a nice "add on" so if customers were looking to
round up an order, I could show them that this was available for not
that much more of a cost. After the company folded, it was all mine to
keep.

-> -> Misery loves company. (G)

-> RH> When it rains it pours, and when it rains it kicks the tinnitus up
->  RH> too. :-) Figures.

-> No fun times.

 RH> Epecially since it's now raining on top of everything.

Better rain than snow.

-> RH> There has to be enough wild yeast to make it work. Around here,
 RH> not so much. The sourdough I made from commercial yeast left to
 grow wasn't very good.

-> We kept one going for some years before Steve went into the Army, dried
-> it for a few months, reconstituted it in CA, dried it for a few more
-> months and then revived it when we got to Fort Hood. Gave it away a
-> couple of years later when we moved to Germany. Had a few shorter term
-> ones off and on since then but none currently.

 RH> I gave up years ago. The starters I can start here just don't taste
 RH> good.

Ours have been good. If we were just getting established here in WF, I'd
consider starting one again. Since we don't know how much longer we'll
be here, I think I'll not, but do so wherever we move to next.

Catch you later,
Ruth
