I do similar with oats for oatmeal... especially since at the moment we
are each eating it as single portions... just add to a cup of water, and
cook away... ;)

I would think so.  ;)   Only thing I've used the boxed "instant" for
(generally brown, also) has been to toss into something at close to the
last minute to take up extra (generally unexpected) liquid... But that
doesn't happen enough lately to justify having any on hand... especially
since it tends to get infested or go stale long before I need it
again... (G)  I just keep the regular brown rice on hand for cooking,
and the microwave brown rice in the freezer for when I should have
thought about the regular an hour ago...  (G)  I've not had counter
space for any extra appliances, anyway... nor cupboard space to store
them off-counter...
