Lilli wants our next trip to be Toronto. As Porter Airlines
has a $190 round trip from Washington, I said that was okay.

That's a good solution for some families.

Let's see. As I recall the scenario was as follows. We
needed a bite to eat and were going to maybe check out the
restaurants nearby, but we walked a few blocks and found
ourselves in a night market area, with zillions of kebab
places; one distinguished itself by the delicious smell
of hardwood smoke, so we parked there. No booze on the
street, but there were bars within a block if need be (the
need didn't happen). I got an iskander kebab (layer of
pita bread, layer of lamb gyro meat, layer of tomato,
layer of yogurt, sheep butter drizzled over), but Lilli
didn't want lamb, so we negotiated for a beef sandwich,
which turned out to be almost the same meat (possibly the
same meat mixed with a little beef or chicken) with
lettuce, tomato, and onion, on a sub (hoagie, hero,
grinder) roll. She queried somewhat too late if it was
safe to eat raw lettuce, tomato, and onion; I said it
probably was, and it was. I had a local soft drink; she
had bottled water. 

The burger was on a separate occasion, after we had escaped
Turkey (the day before the protests ramped up again).

MMMMM---------------------------GYRO PATTIES--------------------------------
  1 1/4 lb Lean ground beef
  1 1/4 lb Lean ground lamb
    1/4 c  Oregano
  1 1/2 tb Onion powder
      1 tb Garlic powder
    3/4 tb Ground pepper (or more)
      1 ts Thyme
    3/4 ts Salt

MMMMM---------------------------YOGURT SAUCE--------------------------------
      1 c  Plain yogurt
    1/4 c  Finely chopped cucumber
    1/4 c  Finely chopped onion
      2 ts Olive oil
           Garlic powder
           Salt & white pepper
      8 lg Pita breads; cut in half
           Thinly sliced onion rings

  For patties:  Preheat broiler or prepare barbeque.  Combine ingredients
  lightly but thoroughly in large bowl.  Shape into 16 thin patties and
  broil, turning once, until done as desired.

  For sauce:  Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl.  Add garlic powder,
  salt and pepper to taste.

  To assemble sandwich, place 1 meat patty in each pita half and top with
  yogurt sauce and onion slices.
