======================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Understandable, some people are more comfortable with doing it with
RH> paper and others with electrons. Choose whichever method you feel
RH> better about and be glad there is an alternative, should you decide
 RH> to try it.

NB> In a more general way, I have found that to be a good thing... at one
NB> point when helping my neighbor, before she added me to her bank
NB> account as a signatory, she was totally incapable for a couple of
 NB> months to do
NB> anything with her finances... her daughter being very online savvy,
NB> and me knowing what needed to be done, the two of us took care of
 NB> things
NB> online until Gwen was able to sign her checks again... Shortly before,
NB> in an effort to get some old bank statements for her, the bank officer
NB> had set up an online account, just to retreive those... we'd never
NB> planned to use that afterwards, but, providentially, it was already in
NB> place so that we could.... :)

My dad was doing a combination of both. He took over from Mom when he
saw she was having trouble but now my brother is doing most of the
banking work for him.

NB> (credit union, NB>> actually) is fine with it. Last year, I called
NB> them before we tried NB>> setting it up, just to make sure that it
 NB> wouldn't be an issue... :)

RH> We've dealt primarily with a credit union here in NC since
RH> 1980--talked about changing it when we got to our first duty station
RH> but never did. The PX does have a bank connected with it; I was trying
RH> to use that one instead of the one not associated with the store,
RH> which, in hindsight, might have been more co-operative. But, all's well
RH> that ends well--I was able to get it taken care of--eventually.

NB> Good thing... :) Hard sometimes in some situations to know what the
NB> best options are... and what will work, given which scenarios... :)
NB> We've found that when available, a credit union is far superior to
 NB> most commercial banks... :)

Depends--we've had accounts in both. Depends on the branch sometimes
too, helps to know the people there.

NB> probably visit RH>> our friends in central PA, then head up to NY.
NB> NB>> We'll hope he gets that driving OK soon... :)

RH> As of earlier this afternoon, still spinning our wheels. DMV has the
RH> paperwork; we're waiting for them to act on it.

 NB> Eventually....

As Steve said, they move at a semi-glacial pace.

NB> NB>> Wednesday we did have quite the storm... I think the most
NB> snowfall in NB>> a single storm yet this season... I was laughing,

RH> Hopefully you were well stocked on groceries and didn't have to go out
 RH> for vitals.

NB> Since we do our shopping on Friday usually... yes, we were well enough
NB> stocked... and could just watch the snow accumulate and dig out the
NB> next day at somewhat leisure.. ;) Didn't have anywhere to go until
 NB> Friday anyway.. ;)

We're OK for now but will need some basics by the end of the week. The
latest storm system will be gone by then. Yesterday was beautiful--we
walked down to the farmer's market and got spinach, a banana-nut bread
(for Steve), a veggie egg pie piece (for me) and a rhubarb tart (for
me). The latter 2 were my lunch. (G)

RH> I know, we had the slow down. Deborah and boys left this morning--
RH> today the weather is the best since Saturday, warm and sunny.

 NB> Go figure... ;)

RH> Sunday thru yesterday were cold, rainy, icy, etc so we did more indoor
RH> things, including having a lot of kid friendly DVDs on the tv. Steve

NB> At least you had things you could do inside, so that you could still
 NB> enjoy their visit... ;)

Yes, it beat having nothing. Helped to have friends with young kids who
loaned us toys and a bouncer for Jaxon.

RH> did get both a pork shoulder and a corned beef smoked (former turned
RH> into kalua pork, latter, pastrami) even tho the weather was bad.

NB> Not bad enough to keep him from getting the smoker going, at least. :)

The smoker is on the front porch--easy access and covered.

NB> It is the season to get the corned beef reasonable... ;) We bought
NB> our annual corned beef round, and had it for two meals so far of
 NB> "boiled
NB> dinner"... (G) Corned beef, cabbage, little red potatoes, baby
NB> carrots, onions... and Irish soda bread to accompany... Today I'm

We did the traditional dinner but no onions or soda bread. Still have a
bit of the beef yet; it'll probably go into sandwiches. Some of the left
over cabbage will go into cole slaw, some as hot slaw.

 NB> turning the
NB> leftovers into a soup to be served with the bread... even the broth
NB> turned out pretty tasty... so all I need to do is cut down the meat
NB> and veggies into smaller chunks... :) If we didn't have the rest of
 NB> the
NB> loaf, I might have made some biscuits to accompany, but that's not
NB> necessary... need to finish up the bread, too... :)

Yes, we're working on using up some rye bread we got at the market a few
weeks ago (had been frozen). Need to get Steve to grind the next batch
of wheat to make more regular bread.

NB> RH>> It was, even tho my alfredo sauce didn't turn out that great.
NB> I'll RH>> try it again but not rush the sauce making.
NB> NB>> Trickier than it seemed, eh...? :)

RH> Not really, I just didn't give it the attention I should have. Kept
RH> the heat a bit too low so the cheese didn't melt like it should have.
RH> But, it still tasted good.

NB> Ah. That could do it... :)

Attention to detail, no multi tasking. I'd done it before so knew it was
possible.

Catch you later,
Ruth
