Once one gets to Medicare age, one is talking individual insurance...
now I have mine, and Richard has his (for now through the exchanges,
until he gets to be old enough for Medicare, too).

There is that.  With cataract surgery now scheduled for May and June, I
expect to get a better idea of what my share would be (although it looks
like I may not have to pay at least some of the co-insurance for the
facility)... I wasn't able to get an Advantage plan in place for this
year, the theory is that being on just Original Medicare is the most
expensive way to go, but I'll have some actual numbers to crunch and
compare at the end of this...  We did manage to get onto a Patient
Assistance program for the hospital most of our procedures are likely to
be done (and which has some of our doctors on their payroll) which picks
up whatever insurance doesn't pay, for anything that the hospital bills
for... that will be a lifesaver.  My cataract surgeries aren't there,
though, so that would be a different arrangement...

At the time, Richard was employed full-time at Wegmans... night shift
stocking grocery... They do well by their employees... and have their
own drug plan for drugs through their pharmacy, which we'd been using
already anyway...  :)

Not so much the amount as the side effects... probably from the
so-called inert ingredients... the generic ends up giving me fluid
retention issues... the OTC just doesn't control the reflux properly
even at a higher dosage...  The latter could be because the brand
capsule is controlled release...

There's various and sundry aspects of giving up, of course...  some with
greater or lesser ramifications overall...  :)
