======================
Hi Nancy,

RH> My dad was doing a combination of both. He took over from Mom when he
RH> saw she was having trouble but now my brother is doing most of the
 RH> banking work for him.

NB> My sister helps my mom with hers, but so far Mommy has to sign all her
NB> checks... hasn't put anyone else on the account with her, and doesn't
NB> do financial things online at all.

My dad still signs the checks but I think my brother can also, using his
POA.

NB> are... and what will work, given which scenarios... :) NB>> We've
NB> found that when available, a credit union is far superior to NB>>
 NB> most commercial banks... :)

RH> Depends--we've had accounts in both. Depends on the branch sometimes
RH> too, helps to know the people there.

NB> That can help too... but bank practices in general tend to be less
NB> user friendly... at least here... I used to have all my accounts in
 NB> banks,
NB> and was quite friendly with the branch people, but it didn't help when
NB> the rules started getting prohibitive... On the other hand, the bank
NB> where the Pond association has its account is just about as good as
NB> our credit union here in town... at least as long as I'm doing
 NB> business in
NB> the Hermon branch, where the account was actually started... :)

We had help from a branch bank once--but Steve had known the teller that
helped him so that might have been why we had the extra help.

NB> RH>> As of earlier this afternoon, still spinning our wheels. DMV has
NB> RH>> the paperwork; we're waiting for them to act on it.
 NB> NB>> Eventually....

RH> As Steve said, they move at a semi-glacial pace.

NB> At least it's only Semi glacial... ;)

Hawaii was glacial.

RH> We're OK for now but will need some basics by the end of the week. The
RH> latest storm system will be gone by then. Yesterday was beautiful--we
RH> walked down to the farmer's market and got spinach, a banana-nut bread
RH> (for Steve), a veggie egg pie piece (for me) and a rhubarb tart (for
RH> me). The latter 2 were my lunch. (G)

 NB> Nice. :)

And yummy! Steve walked out to Lowe's today but forgot to get one thing
on the list. He did get one thing not on it tho.

NB> RH>> Sunday thru yesterday were cold, rainy, icy, etc so we did more
NB> indoor RH>> things, including having a lot of kid friendly DVDs on
NB> the tv. Steve NB>> At least you had things you could do inside, so
NB> that you could still NB>> enjoy their visit... ;)

RH> Yes, it beat having nothing. Helped to have friends with young kids
RH> who loaned us toys and a bouncer for Jaxon.

 NB> I'm sure that did help! :)

Very much! Logan tore up the cardboard box the blocks were in so N said
"any bag" would do to put them in. I made a bag out of denim, with
blocks appliqued on, for a replacement.

NB> RH>> did get both a pork shoulder and a corned beef smoked (former
NB> turned RH>> into kalua pork, latter, pastrami) even tho the weather
 NB> was bad.
NB> NB>> Not bad enough to keep him from getting the smoker going, at
 NB> least. :)

RH> The smoker is on the front porch--easy access and covered.

 NB> Ah... that works... :)

Especially nice in bad weather.

NB> NB>> Corned beef, cabbage, little red potatoes, baby
NB> NB>> carrots, onions... and Irish soda bread to accompany...

RH> We did the traditional dinner but no onions or soda bread. Still have
RH> a bit of the beef yet; it'll probably go into sandwiches. Some of the
RH> left over cabbage will go into cole slaw, some as hot slaw.

NB> The soda bread was one of the tasting items at Wegmans the Friday
NB> before... I usually look for the Irish potato bread at the season, we

OK, I've made soda bread before.

NB> got this instead... :) No leftover cabbage except for what was
NB> cooked up in the dinner, so it all got eaten with... I got just half
 NB> a
NB> relatively small head of cabbage, just enough for the pot.. :)

I tried to get a small head but couldn't so made some of the extra into
cole slaw today. The rest might go into hot slaw.

NB> RH>> Not really, I just didn't give it the attention I should have.
NB> Kept RH>> the heat a bit too low so the cheese didn't melt like it
NB> should have. RH>> But, it still tasted good.
NB> NB>> Ah. That could do it... :)

RH> Attention to detail, no multi tasking. I'd done it before so knew it
 RH> was possible.

NB> Some things can cook themselves practically, others need to be better
 NB> monitored... ;)

Yes, and the ones that need to be monitored, really need the watching.
It's easy to take your eye off them for a split second and ruin whatever
is being made (speaking from experience).

Catch you later,
Ruth
