First, a recipe.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.02

      Title: Mother's Brownies
 Categories: Desserts, Cookies, lactose-free
      Yield: 1 batch

      1    Egg
    1/4 c  Butter - melted
      1 c  White sugar
           OR
  1 1/2 c  Brown sugar
      2 tb Water
      3 tb Cocoa
    3/4 c  Flour
    1/4 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Baking powder
           Nuts

  Beat eggs slightly.  Stir in butter.  Then stir in sugar and add the
  water. Beat 1/2 minute and add cocoa.  Mix together the flour, salt,
  baking powder, and nuts.  Add to the first mixture.  Bake in a slow
  oven until done.

I am not devoid of experience with the illegal product,
which interestingly enough tended to be much, much weaker.
The danger was that it could be laced with various malign
components, from hallucinogens to poisons; in this case I
actually speculated, while I was under the influence, that
perhaps a tad of LSD or some similar might have found its
unauthorized way into the recipe.

It was merely bad planning and an ignorance of the proper dosage
- I ingested a couple grams of baked good, which in my day would
have been considered only a tiny amount, barely an effective
dose, if that. Part of it was that the active ingredient is now
up to an order of magnitude more potent than what I had
experience with; part of it was that the stuff was made by
amateurs, in particular one who is pot-happy and perhaps one of
the few on this planet who is actually addicted to the stuff.

To me part of the point of marijuana brownies is that one might
want to actually eat a brownie. If the dosage is only a couple
grams (i.e., less than half a teaspoon), what's the advantage?

My subsequent reading on the subject indicates that cannabinoids
are sometimes used to treat hyperactive bladder, so my concerns
were partially unfounded anyway (which knowledge might have been
reassuring if I'd known at the time). Also that THC was isolated
a scant 5 years before I became familiar with it, so though the
botanical has a long and mostly honorable history, the strong
drug is very much a thing of our time.
