Ärende: Asparagus
=================
-> -> tho. As for food bank contributions, we try to go for more "meal"
type
-> -> products like canned soups or pastas. Usually that is what's on the
-> -> request list instead of items like vegetables.
->
-> RH> I only buy the veggies when they're too cheap to pass up. The food
-> RH> banks sometimes ask for them too. My mom has a soup recipe that
calls
-> RH> for the canned ones, so I'll keep some on hand for just in case.
-> RH> Other than that, not really.
->
->
-> I saw some canned white asparagus in Lowe's the other day, thought
-> "should I?", then decided "no, taste wouldn't be what I wanted" so left
-> it on the shelf. Did grab a can of bean salad as making it from scratch
-> makes a lot more than 2 people can reasonably eat.
->
They have it in a local supermarket, even in the salad bar sometimes. I
get
a little once in a while.

-> -> (G) Our girls call scrapbooking/stamping "stamp crack" so I guess
it's
-> -> an acceptable "addiction". Never heard the acquisition of quilting
-> -> fabrics called anything like that; it's usually refered to as
"building
-> -> the stash" or similar terms.
->
-> RH> They also call the drugs you're "holding" a stash, so I'm holding a
-> RH> lot of weight in fabric.
->
-> I've got some, but trying to get it sewn down before we have to move
-> again. If I don't, we'll have to pay for moving it.

I'm eating my way through my stash one quilt at a time. That doesn't mean
more fabric doesn't creep in occasionally. I just try to make it leave!

-> -> cotton scraps again. Three years ago I was down to one bag to cut
down,
-> -> now there's 4 waiting. I cut them into squares and strips to
eliminate
-> -> odd, unusable portions; it also makes pulling pieces together for a
-> -> quilt easier to find.
->
->  RH> I'd imagine.  I have a scrap pile too.  It's diminished somewhat
since
-> RH> I made a few scrap quilts recently out of almost nothing but scrap.
->
-> I've several other quilts to make besides the QoV projects but have
-> fabric committed for them.
->
I have fabric with no particular aim in mind, or at least no recipient.

-> -> -> Steve calls it "sour celery" if that gives you any hint.
->
-> ->  RH> His loss.
->
-> -> He likes it but not raw. Guess I ought to try a pie or something with
-> -> stevia, see how that goes over.
->
->  RH> Ought to work.
->
-> Just have to get the rhubarb to try it.
->
Got a friend with a garden? Someone dumped a batch off at the local senior
center this spring, free to good home. I snagged a healthy pound and
brought
it home to Mom, who promptly ate it. She cooked it first however.

-> -> We've not been paid to haul something off yet. Steve did take some
-> -> electronics down to the recyling center the other day, but scavanged
-> -> useable parts first.
->
-> RH> It's happened to me every so often. Gotta love it when it happens.
->
-> Yes, paid is good. Getting useable parts is good too. That's why I
-> scavange buttons, zippers, etc before tossing clothes, backpacks, etc
-> that are absolutely no good otherwise.

Nothing unusual there. I was raised by Depression babies, one of whom had
a
farm kid for a mother. I don't scavenge zippers any more, the plastic ones
aren't worth the effort, but will sometimes snag the buttons. I've bought
vintage clothes for the buttons before now. The clothing might be horrible,
but in a few cases the buttons have been great. One prime example was
green
and yellow poly doubleknit nastiness with gorgeous black glass buttons. The
buttons were removed and the shirt tossed. I'd have burnt it, but that
fabric just melts.
