[G]  Thank you.  I am terribly lazy, old, and forgetful, but I going to try
to be at least a minor presence.


re Toronto:

We stayed in Montreal for several days when we were first married, but we
just didn't take to it. I never took to NYC, either.  We just fell in love
with Toronto. After the times there, mentioned above, we sort of lost the
desire to travel for some years.  When we got the itch again we got into
guided Bus Tours.  Reasons and timing are a little hazy... no matter. It is
a great life.

ml-> Which restaurant? I had a favorite waiter at Galatoire's,
->   Imre Szalai; he would give us free stuff, and he was a hoot.

Richard was at Antoines.  We went there on a trip with our friends the
Allens.  [Duane now deceased]  I was meandering a BBS before we went, and
someone mentioned that 'his' waiter was Richard.  So I called long
distance, asked if Richard was there.  He was, by sheer luck, and I just
baldly asked if he would be my waiter when we visited.  He agreed and we
set a reservation.  

He treated us like Royalty.  It was such a pleasure when he came to the
door and escorted us from the horribly bright white downstairs, and up to
the lush decor and restful dimness upstairs.  We had those wonderful potato
puff things that Antoines was famous for, and we had the Oysters
Rockefeller they were supposed to have invented.  Can't remember the mains.
At the end we had the Cafe Diablo... that was a delightful surprise when he
ladled a little blazing stream all across the table top and settings.
[well, a burning stream anyway. It was of course just that pale blue
alcohol flame]  

We were just unsophisticated noobs from Lil' Newark NY and we, as ever,
unvarnished Tourists ate it up.  Allens were more advanced, but they were
were taken with Antoines and 'my' Waiter.

I think our Doctor gave us something to help if we caught it.  The night
before the flight was unmitigated Hell, but the meds made the long flight
home at least unembarrassed.

We went there on our second visit to NO, again with the Allens.  It too was
a delight, but alas, we had 'our' Waiter.
