=======================
Hi Michael,

RH> Started out with a C-64 and 1200 baud modem, went to a 264 and on up.

ML> I started with the TRS-80 III, which cost almost $4000.

Amend the above to 284--Steve got it at a military surplus sale so it
didn't cost that much.

RH> Since we moved up to WF, I've been doing my Fido on my net book,
RH> parking wherever's comfy. The smaller keyboard fits my hands better so
RH> I can usually either type with fewer mistakes or fix the ones I catch
 RH> easier.

ML> Funny thing about this box - I now have to set it at an
ML> angle to get the contacts on the power supply to work, so

Probably helps keep it cooler as it allows more air circulation.

ML> that has increased my typos exponentially (I try to remember
ML> to proofread now). Next one I'll perhaps pay more attention
ML> to the keyboard arrangement. Another thing is that the

Steve was commenting on the keyboard set up of one of his systems to a
friend the other day. I understood that a funcion key was in the
position where his control key usually is, causing him to hit the wrong
key more often than not.

ML> letter labels of the A and S keys have worn off, while every
ML> other one is intact. I attribute this not only to A and S
ML> being among the most frequently used letters, but my 3rd
ML> and 4th fingers on the fingering hand are used to hitting
ML> harder than my other fingers. Also, I hit the other common
ML> letters in different spots than the labels are printed.
 ML> T, E, H, I, O, N not necessarily in that order. The
ML> keyboard looks as I generally typed missives that looked
ML> like aa asaa ssa sss asa.

Get a marker and write in the A and S, then cover it with clear nail
polish. As for hitting wrong keys, can't help you there--I do enough of
that myself.

 ML> You respected your parents.
RH> It wasn't a topic of discussion--they (usually Dad) set the boundaries
RH> and we obeyed them. That included not "rocking the boat" with
RH> complaints about Mom's (lack of) cooking ability.

 ML> You respected your parents.

No choice in the matter.

RH> And I don't like coconut, peanut butter, sweet potatoes & coffee but
RH> do enjoy dairy (yogurt, cheese, ice cream), white meat chicken, wheat
 RH> bread,

ML> About as catholic as mine, then.

I think most of us here are the same way--some individual dislikes but
overall, a bunch of ecclectic cooks and eats.

 ML> Filet-O-Fish
RH> You aren't required to have the piece of cheese on it.

ML> I could have guessed that. The other day I was in dire need
ML> of protein with only 15 minutes before my bus, so I darted
ML> into a McDonald's and asked for a quarter pounder no cheese.
ML> I don't think they'd ever had such an order. The darned
ML> thing cost me $4, but I was in no mood to fuss. I made the
 ML> bus, just.

They had to make it special--should have asked for one and just peeled
the cheese off it as best you could. Less chance of missing the bus as
they probably had one or more on the warming rack.

---
Catch you later,
Ruth
