==================================
Hi Nancy,

NB> lots of choices NB>> of walking partners... I had one girlfriend that
 NB> we used to talk
NB> NB>> only in French, just for the fun (and exercise) of it. :) She
NB> NB>> lived a block or so away, IIRC... :)

RH> That would have been interesting.

NB> It certainly was a good way to get one thinking in the language, even
NB> if not quite as good as true immersion... we had enough vocabulary
NB> under our belts that we could do pretty well.. :)

And, a good understanding of the grammar at that point as well.

RH> French had been discontinued in our high school by the time I started,
RH> just had a choice of Spanish or Latin. I went with the latter.

NB> My school in the Philly area offered Latin for 9th and 10th grade, and
NB> then French for 11th and 12th... So I'd had 2 years of Latin already,
NB> and took French II at my new school to finish the sequence... I
NB> actually managed to also accomplish French III in my same senior year,
 NB> but that
NB> was because another senior and I decided to take the French
NB> Acheivement test with our college boards, and tutored each other in
NB> the rest of the second year French... came back second semester and
 NB> the teacher put us
NB> both into third year french... ;) Spanish was probably also offered
NB> at that latter school, but I don't think any other languages were
 NB> offered
NB> at the school I started in... :)

I suspect your schools were bigger than the one I went to--we had no AP
type classes, only a couple of teachers for each major subject and one
each for art, vocal music, instrumental music, each language, home ec,
shop, etc. When we moved back to the States from Germany, Rachel started
her freshman year of high school a couple of months later. She started
with Latin, but only had one semester because of the move from MA to AZ.
She finished with German as Latin wasn't an option in AZ until the year
after she graduated. Then Deborah took 2 years of it.

NB> pine RH>> pollen hasn't even begun its annual season of misery yet.
NB> Probably RH>> another week to 10 days before that kicks in.
 NB> NB>> What fun... ;0

RH> It has started--saw some earlier today.

NB> A little early... but that's probably our wonderful roller-coaster
NB> weather... (G) Yesterday, it got in the high seventies, and today it
NB> got into the 80s and it's only mid-April... but tomorrow, the high is
NB> supposed to only be in the 30s...! With snow (not so unexpected) and
NB> sleet (which I'd just as soon it missed)... ;0

We're getting rain, with a freeze warning but the mountains got snow. Ny
sweaters are still within easy grabs, still have some soups and stuff
like that in the freezer. I pulled out a turkey soup yesterday to use
tomorrow--we probably won't get out of the 50s so it'll be a good day
for soup. It's washing all the pollen out of the air tho.

NB> RH>> Google "Barrel Monster" for something that was the talk of the
NB> area RH>> here a few years ago. A college kid's creativity that the
 NB> DOT didn't RH>> find so funny.
 NB> NB>> I can well imagine... ;)

RH> Everybody else did think it was funny--DOT has no sense of humor. (G)

NB> Nope.... almost by definition... ;)

NB> RH>> We're still waiting for the spring thaw--the glacier is stuck
 NB> still. NB>> Sigh.....

RH> And still in a holding pattern.

NB> We prayed for that in church yesterday... and for trust to wait on
NB> God's timing and peace in the situation... :)

Thanks, its been a good test of patience. DMV has had the paperwork
about 4 weeks now so hopefully we'll hear from them soon.

RH> I got a few more groceries yesterday, riding with a friend from church.

NB> A good thing... to have friends... :) Part of the answer... :)

Yes, and we're getting to know them better, having to rely on them for
rides.

RH> Steve just said something about walking over to the Grain Mill
RH> for more wheat; I suggested he wait until Tuesday & do it after
RH> chapel--he will be in the neighborhood then.

NB> That makes sense... if there isn't any rush on it, combining things is
NB> a good thing... Of course, if he's itching for a good walk.... (G)

He walked over yesterday--and found they're closed Mondays so went
today. Got both hard & soft wheat plus oats--a rather heavy bag with all
3 bags of stuff. But, now we're set for a bit longer.

Catch you later,
Ruth
