======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> Actually... when we got married, we did it with as little fuss
NB> as NB>> possible... and took for granted that we'd have our own
NB> pastor and NB>> church available, which we did... ;) And the food was
 NB> cookies and punch NB>> that I made/planned, and a donated
 NB> (spur-of-the-moment) wedding cake

RH> OK, I should have said something along the lines of "........when most
 RH> people get married.........."

NB> Ok, I'll grant you that one.. :) Many people plan things way out...
NB> We'd originally intended to just get married within a month of
NB> deciding, it turned out to be more like 5 months, only because my dad
NB> thought we were rushing things... ;)

Steve officially asked me the night before Thanksgiving of my senior
year of college, figuring the end of September or beginning of October
the next year would work out best for him. The more we talked over the
next few days (I'd gone down to NC to visit him; he proposed at sunset
on a fishing pier.), the more we settled on the first of the dates. A
few months later he suggested moving it to August but I had a feeling it
wouldn't be a good idea. As it was, something came up with my family
(unknown at the time I'd told him moving the date wouldn't be good) in
August so the September date stayed.

RH> Since I was the first of my siblings to get married, we did do a bit
RH> more fussing. My younger brother worked in a deli--they did the
RH> catering, a high school classmate's mom made the cake and the reception
RH> was at the church fellowship hall. The ladies of the church handled
RH> set up, serving, clean up, etc. My aunt made my dress, other girls had
RH> theirs made by various people.

NB> I was the first of my siblings to get married, also... :) My sister
NB> helped me make my dress, and made her own... she was my only
NB> attendent. Another sister put together a family consort (recorders and
NB> strings) for the music... My grampa and an uncle, both ministers, took
NB> parts of the service. It was a family affair... ;)

Ours was family and friends. One sister and brother from each of our
families were in the wedding party, as was a cousin. A friend of Steve's
was his best man; a college friend of mine was organist. The soloist was
the mutual friend who'd gotten us together; the pastors were from our
churches.

RH> Still, it was fairly a small event for
RH> something that's lasted for 38 years and 7 months (and counting).

NB> We're coming up on 41 this year... :) While it probably doesn't hold
NB> in all cases, I've noticed that often it's the huge events that don't
NB> bode that well for a lasting marriage... The bigger the do, it almost
NB> seems the shorter the marriage...

It seems that way at times. A lot of money is spent for the show but
that doesn't mean it'll be a "go".

NB> NB>> But as to final preparations... some of that's been done now for
NB> NB>> Mommy, since we've been through it already with Daddy... the
NB> plot's NB>> there, etc... ;) And she's already making out her list
NB> of which NB>> hymns she wants sung at her service... :) The near-end
NB> are a little NB>> looser, but I'm sure that things will solid up as
 NB> needed... :)

RH> My mom didn't pre plan anything before her mind went. Dad has some
RH> final plans made & paid for but, like your mom, there are loose ends
RH> to tie up. They have a plot, have Dad's (don't know about Mom's) obit
RH> drafted, met with undertaker, etc.

NB> We used to joke that Daddy would write Mommy's will, and parcel out
NB> all her belongings to the kids... It didn't actually happen that
NB> way... but it made fine tales... ;)

My dad's draft obit starts out with him being in some sort of accident
connected to his (model) trains. The ironic part now, is that most of
them have been sold.

NB> NB>> Seriously, though, it is good to have another educated taster to
NB> check NB>> it out first, and figure what if anything needs
 NB> tweaking... :)

RH> That's what I usually do with my chili and things--Steve can taste the
RH> nuances better so I let him do more of the seasoning.

NB> The team approach to cooking... ;)

We've done quite a bit of that since Steve got out of the Army. Part of
it because of school/sewing deadlines, part of it just because it works
best for what's being done at the time.

NB> only a so-so NB>> dish after all.. ;) After all, they may think it
 NB> tastes wonderful... NB>> :)

RH> So far, all have gone over well. Some I need to figure out how to
RH> scale down for the 2 of us, unless I make a large batch and portion it
 RH> out into freezer containers.

NB> As long as you have the freezer space... ;)

So far, so good. We're trying to "eat down" all the meats and veggies we
put in last fall. Veggies are going faster than the meats but I can see
some progress there. I'll get some fresh stuff at the farmer's market to
suppliment/change of taste the frozen as well.

NB> RH>> I like the German style, hot or cold too. The bacon and vinegar
NB> RH>> flavors just go so well together.............hmmm, might make
NB> some RH>> for the picnic.
 NB> NB>> That's a thought... :)

RH> I might just do that then.

NB> I'm still totally without ideas for this year's picnic... :)

You've got a couple of months to think about it yet.

NB> isn't NB>> that carb-laden, is it...? Just the pasta you'd have it
 NB> with...?

RH> Heavy cream can have a fair number of carbs in it but the cheese is
RH> basically carb free. It's not something I'd want every week but every
RH> 2-3 weeks would be OK.

NB> I'd've thought that heavy cream was nothing but fat, no carbs at
NB> all... But the sauce would have some flour/starch in it, right...?

Yes, some, but milk/cream do have carbs. A cup of whole milk has
something like 12 carbs.

Catch you later,
Ruth
