Authentic everywhere but here chicken has skin, or at least
if the skin has been removed, it shows up in another dish. In
Japan, there were yakitori of chicken with skin and chicken
without skin, but the removed skin was served as a separate
item - it wasn't my favorite, because it is served not fried
crisp but charred on one side and flabby on the other. My
favorite is the hearts.

Oh, well. I went with my friend Rosemary on the recommendation
of my friend Alex; we got mostly "parts," of which the crisp-
fried skin was the best. I ended up dropping more for the skin
of one or two chickens than a whole chicken would have cost at
the rotisserie counter of a neighboring supermarket, but I was
still very happy.

I arrived a couple days ago, and she showed up tonight, a
bit earlier than the original plan, as the daughter in
question resented a non-family-member taking a role.

Ciara, the new cat, has put on 8 oz a month and has turned
into the new alpha. She still runs from me (and then howls
and scratches at my door when I close it, so like a woman).
Jupiter, who was #2 to his dad Zach, is still #2 - Zach had
to be put down, as I may have said here, being almost 15
and very creaky. So Lola, the one I don't like, is on the
bottom of the pecking order and runs from everyone, though
I did catch her sucking up to the alpha today - I suspect a
palace coup in the offing.

Prawns with zucchini
categories: Italian, main, shellfish, gross
Serves: 4

14 oz prawns
7 oz zucchini
4 oz shelled mussels
1 egg
3 oz ripe tomatoes
8 ts sesame seeds, toasted
1 1/2 oz wild fennel
4 ts olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Lemon

Boil zucchini, let cool and slice lengthwise.

Shell the prawns. Wrap prawns in cooled zucchini strips
and refrigerate. Beat the egg. Dip shelled mussels into
egg, then sesame seeds. Place in preheated 325F oven for
3 to 4 min. Cook the prawns in a nonstick frying pan,
until crunchy, and arrange them on a serving dish in the
shape of a fan. In the center of the dish, carefully
place the mussels and season everything with a dressing
of lemon, oil, salt and white pepper. Garnish with sprigs
of wild fennel and serve lukewarm.
