WashEZE was the brand. Optical brighteners can make the uniforms more
visible, which defeats the purpose of camouflage. We could not find any
other brand of laundry detergent which had no optical brighteners.
WashEZE states on its web site that the unscented ones were "designed
specifically to military specifications so it can be used for
camouflage."

It was not convenience, but the requirement to launder uniforms without
optical brighteners that was the determining factor in purchasing
WashEZE. It was quite convenient for travel as well as the sheets did
not weigh much and did not take up much space. While I am sure that most
Soldiers did not bother to follow the instructions and just used regular
detergent, I did try to maintain them according to instructions.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

      Title: Blitzkuchen (Lightning Cake)
 Categories: Cakes, German, F'burg, Quick
      Yield: 1 cake

      1 c  Butter -OR-
    3/4 c  Margarine
      1 c  Sugar
      4    Eggs
  1 1/2 c  Flour sifted WITH
  1 1/2 ts Baking powder
           Grated rind AND
           Juice of 1 lemon
           Sugar AND cinnamon

  Cream butter and sugar.  Add eggs one at a time.  Beat well, add
  flour, lemon juice and rind and spread 1-inch thick on flat pan.
  Sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon ang bake 20 minutes at
  350ø F.
