Well. Drum is on one end of a spectrum (on a particular
subject, i.e., appreciation), and I'm on the other. Abbott
and Costello and George Carlin are in a different field,
i.e., perpetration.

Bear in mind I never said that humor was identical to
cruelty, just that they have a very close relationship
- closer apparently than people are willing to admit.
But I'll take the bait here.

Who's on first is funny. I don't get the ROFLing
effect it has on some, but it's funny. But wherein
lies the funniness? It's in the inequality between
the one who knows (Abbott) and the one who is
terminally ignorant (Costello). You laugh because
the one leads the other around like a blind bear.
Naturally.

Carlin I've never been very enthusiastic about,
finding him more often than not a cruel, sarcastic,
foul-mouthed SOB. I can be some or all of these, by
turns, but I don't particularly appreciate it in
others or myself; so I was unfamiliar with the
routine and had to look it up ... found it perfectly
unobjectionable, except in the one jab at John Madden,
which was brief, cruel, funny, and justified.

A silly recipe; the best thing about it was the amount
of meat, that's to say a lot; but on the other hand it
shares a lot of flavor components with lobster thermidor,
which I think an excellent way to make a lobster feed
more people than it normally would. In fact, I was
thinking of doing a batch of it at the picnic using the
sacrificial lambs from the tranquilizing demonstration.

Now that's close to cruelty. The difference between
ricotta salata and feta is key here.

No shellfish were harmed in the making of this dish:

      Title: Feta and Celery Salad
 Categories: Salads
      Yield: 2 servings

    175 g  Feta, crumbled
      3    Stalks of celery
           -- thinly sliced
      1    Canned pimento
           -- chopped small
      2 tb Chopped fresh thyme
           -OR oregano
      2 tb Vinaigrette
      1    Oak-leaf lettuce
           -- washed and trimmed

  Mix the feta with the celery, pimento and chopped herbs. Dress with
  vinaigrette. Place the lettuce leaves on two separate plates, and spoon
  half of the feta and celery salad in the centre of each one.
