 -> -> RH> Something like that. Then again a friend has twin sons who are
 -> -> RH> only about a year older than his oldest grandkid. The parents
 ->  ->  RH> got married at 19 and 20 respectively.
 -> -> That was close... the grandkid could have been older than the
 ->  -> youngest twins... (G)
 -> RH> As it is, they're about a year apart.
 -> Almost might as well be triplets... ;)
 ->
 RH> Close! They don't live in the same house, but the DIL and SIL were
 RH> over at the parents' place doing the house cleaning this weekend.
 RH> Gotta love a man who knows how to use a vacuum cleaner. Of course, it
 RH> is a gadget with a motor, so it ought to be a natural.

But most would only deal with it as something to be fixed.. ;) But the
vacuuming has been Richard's job mostly, ever since he started doing it
shortly after our child was born... His mom taught him all sorts of
useful things when he was growing up.. :)

 -> -> Second (and subsequent) marriages and steps definitely change the
 ->  -> playing field...  (G)
 -> RH> Things can get seriously odd.
 -> It's made a great-grandmother of a couple of my sisters already... and
 -> one of them not even in her 60s yet...

 RH> Not quite as bad, but close.

Since the daughters who married are close in age to the step-daughters,
it did make them grandmothers at a ridiculously early age, too.. and
not because they'd started early... ;0

 -> -> I only know of one burner that doesn't work anymore... it was the
 -> -> one that lowered into a hole so one could do deep-frying more easily...

 -> -> The other back burner I just haven't tried for ages, maybe it still
 -> -> works, but I've not needed to have more than two in use at any one
 -> -> time... usually only one... so maybe there's 3 out of 4 working...
 ->  RH> I wouldn't know.  I generally don't use more than three at once
 ->  RH> myself.
 -> That takes some serious cooking... or multiple cooks... ;)

 RH> Depends on what time of the year it is, and what I'm up to.

I suppose if one was making a meal, and putting up stuff at the same
time... but that is getting into serious cooking, too... ;)

 -> -> are working just fine... (G) I expect that when they do, we
 -> -> won't be able to find replacements...
 ->  RH> If I couldn't get them over 30 years ago, I doubt it.
 -> Depends on whether someone's decided that making replacement parts for
 -> antique applicances is a viable business... or, possibly more likely,
 -> someone decided that it was worth it to scrounge old appliances for
 -> still-working parts, to be sold at a premium for die-hards like us... ;)

 RH> I'd bet more on the latter. The old stoves they're reconditioning
 RH> and remaking are mostly pre-WWII.

Ours is post-WWII, but not by much. Of course, that is presuming that
the stoves don't just get sent off to be crushed for their metal... :)

 -> RH> My sister bought a fancy one when she got married. Darned thing
 -> RH> never worked right. She finally bought a new one about five years
 -> RH> ago. The new one works.
 -> She must have bought a less fancy one, more utilitarian... ;)

 RH> No, just a different brand.

Ah...  and got lucky...  :)

 ->  ->  RH> Mine's a built-in.  We're on our fourth one.  The one that came
 -> -> We'd have to re-think the kitchen to get one built in now...
 -> RH> Your kitchen didn't have one to begin with.
 -> Not built-in, anyway... And when we rearranged the kitchen, there still
 -> wasn't any good spot for one...

 RH> Mine was built with one, so we never had the problem.

Makes a difference...  :)

 -> -> RH> also failed. It was a fancy one. The cheap-o replacement she
 -> -> RH> bought after that one died is still going fine.
 -> -> Go figure... :) As we were saying, the lower end models are more
 ->  -> likely to last... :)
 -> RH> Fewer things on them to die.
 -> Indeed.   :)
 ->
 RH> It's why they can keep 18th century clocks running, but digital
 RH> watches often die when their batteries do.

Also, the older ones are made with parts that are more likely to last...
not plastic gears to rub away... ;)
