Ärende: Mother's day dinner was: Easter dinner
===============================================
Hi Nancy.

RH> Even tho it's based on what Mom used to make, it has my own twists
RH> to it. He didn't object to them the other night (more onion, some
RH> mushrooms & tomato sauce added, also various herbs & spices Mom
RH> doesn't use). My brothers scarfed down a good bit of it as well.

NB> Of course you would have made it yours... ;)

Yes, I had to do something to make it different from what I grew up
eating. Hers had only salt & pepper for seasoning; we used some basil
this time as the only rosemary on hand was who knows how old dry leaves.
I didn't have any sort of thing handy to make a disposable bag for them
either, something I do at home with the fresh rosemary.

So, your older brother stuck around for a while, too...? :)

Yes, he left Sunday morning, should have gotten home on Tuesday. Other
than his presence, I don't think he really contributed anything to the
discussion on events to come.

NB> NB>> prepared or if Eric made it up from scratch... Had little
NB> flecks NB>> of red on the outside of the chicken, anyway... ;)

 RH> Possibly Italian dressing?

NB> Dunno... possibly... He wasn't in church yesterday, so I couldn't ask
 NB> him...

YOu'll find out eventually. I'm still waiting for the cake recipe but
not in any big rush for it either.

 NB> NB>> The hors d'oeuvre was indeed ambitious... I think Sam hadn't
NB> realized NB>> just how painstaking it would be.... but it was well
NB> worth the effort. NB>> He does like to do that sort of thing... :)

RH> Does he work in a food services job? Sounds like he'd enjoy that.

NB> No, if he had to do it regularly, every day, he might get tired of

I understand that full well.

NB> it... I think his degree was in biology, though... At the moment,
NB> he's with a temp agency, I think at some warehouse job... not the best
 NB> economy...

At least he's working, which is good in itself these days.

NB> NB>> I used to like putting apple into things, too... ;) And eating
 NB> it... NB>> ;0

RH> Sigh! Any chance you'll "outgrow" the allergy?

NB> Your guess is as good as mine... but I suspect not... unless it was
NB> caused by some imbalance that is (or can be) righted someday...

Well, at least you know what an apple tastes like.

NB> RH>> Feast time! If you went hungry, it was your own fault.
NB> NB>> Absolutely.. :) There was some effort put into making sure
NB> that the NB>> people with special dietary needs wouldn't go hungry,
 NB> either... :)

RH> Sweet! So many people don't think of that when cooking for a crowd.

NB> This group tends to think at least to some extent that direction...
NB> having a number of people that do have dietary issues does tend to
NB> encourage that sort of thinking and planning... especially when they
NB> are doing some of the planning... ;)

That's a big help! I'd have to read labels to know what was safe, what
isn't until I learned. Then, thanks to the magic words "new and improved
formula", I'd still be reading labels.

NB> NB>> A cake made in the shape of, and frosted to look like, a shark
NB> head NB>> with the mouth open and showing all the teeth... :)

RH> CUTE! Hopefully the one bringing it got pictures before it was cut up.

NB> Hopefully... :) They might have done so before bringing it to
 NB> church, even... :)

That's possible. I try to get pictures of my quilts--haven't got them
all documented but most of them.

NB> that... NB>> I know of 5 adults, along with two of the three children
NB> of that one NB>> family. And at least one of the adults is also
 NB> lactose intolerant...

RH> It's also more out in the open much more than it used to be.

NB> True... My one friend, who's been at the church for years, has had
NB> the gluten intolerance for most if not all that time, so at least on a
NB> quiet level, some of us were aware of it... hers isn't so severe that
 NB> she
NB> can't take the bread at communion, so that never was an issue until
NB> more recently when the family that has the severe issues started
 NB> coming...
NB> now she provides a couple slices worth of gluten-free bread to be
NB> offered as an option at communion... like I said, there's 5 adults
NB> that take advantage of that regularly... :)

Its one thing we've never discussed in our church. We do try to watch
out in our Life Group for the kid with allergies. Some of the other
cooks have packaging for ingredients handy for me to check carb counts
on as well.

NB> NB>>> I think we were fed better than if we'd gone out to eat for
 NB> NB>>> Mother's Day... :)
 NB> RH>> I don't think so, I know so! (G)
NB> NB>> And you didn't even get to taste it... ;)

RH> Not physically but from your description, it was a feast well worth
 RH> the effort.

 NB> But of course... :)

Now will you reciprocate on Father's Day?

Catch you later,
Ruth
