I still have not been inside the store itself. So, I dunno. But, I am sure that
they will have a goodly amount ... if only to compete with other markets in
town.

RH> Give it a few months--they're still new enough that people are coming

There used to be four fairly major stupormarkups in the area. A Jewel, A
National, two family-owned independents as well as a selection of
"neighbourhood" Mom & Pop groceries. The National, which was the anchor store
of the strip mall just to the south of the current Hy-Vee location was the last
to go - over 10 years ago. So the area has been pretty starved for a
stupormarkup anyway. I anticipate that they will do well. As do their bean
counters else they'd not have come to the area.

DD> I haven't been inside the store yet - but, I did buy gas for the
DD> company truck at their attached gasoline facility - it was 15c/gal
DD> less than even the El-Cheapos in town - the pay-at-the-pump part is

RH> Well worth buying gas there, especially since it's convenient to where
RH> you work. If it were further away, it wouldn't have been so good a

DD> 15c per gallon would prompt me to drive a fair distance to get in on

RH> I wouldn't go too far away as it would burn up any savings in getting
RH> there/coming back. Steve was up in Louisburg yesterday and paid
RH> 5c/gallon less than the Lowe's grocery station near us. Probably burned
RH> about a gallon or so in the drive home.

Depends on how far "out-of-route" I have to go. I'm not one of those who will
drive to the next town to save $5 on a tank of fuel and burn two to three
gallons of $3.00 (or more) gasoline getting there and back. If I have a reason
for going there other than just for the cheap gasoline ....... that's a
different deal. Nothing wrong with a bargain on my planet. Bv)=

DD> they came to town. They use a direct debit card and give you 6c/gallon

DD> ... like a coupon for a free cup of coffee after every purchase. And
DD> monthly freebies - some of which I get in on and some of which I blow
DD> off ... like the candy bars. And if you buy 10 gallons of fuel on

RH> fun, didn't know of any that gave away candy bars and suchlike.

DD> Sunday you get a coupon for a free car wash. That's not just for

RH> We try not to buy gas on Sundays, unless travelling.

We fill the company vans there on Sundays. Sometimes twice. So, we keep the
white, Moby Dick-like, haulers pretty clean - on their nickle. I just sent an
e-mail to Moto-Mart's headquarters asking for locations between Illinois and
Maryland - thinking ahead, as it were.

DD> Moto-Mart Wand Card users - ca$h, other plastic, etc. all get a free
DD> wash with 10 gallons. Not a bad deal.

RH> I've not seen that around here. We have noticed quite a bit tho, while
RH> travelling stations that advertise in big numbers their gas prices.
RH> We'll head for them and find out it's a cash only price, credit is
RH> usually about 10c/gallon more. Usually we decide to move on, sometimes
RH> we have no choice but to stop there--and growl about it.

The Mobil stations here feature a price that is 10c/gallon lower than the
market - until you read the small print "w/wash". A six or seven dollar wash
will save you two bucks on 20 gallons ... not nearly so good a deal as a $7
wash with 10 gallons of gas you were gonna buy anyway. Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

Title: Grilled Brats & Circus Onions
 Categories: Sausages, Breads, Beer, Vegetables
      Yield: 6 Servings

      1 lg Onion; thin sliced
1 lg Bell pepper; thin sliced
      2 tb Oil
      2 cl Garlic; crushed
    3/4 ts Caraway seed
    1/2 c Beer
    1/4 ts Salt
    1/8 ts Fresh ground pepper
      6 Bratwurst or knockwurst
      6 Split rolls; 6" long
           Grainy mustard

Prepare a hot fire in a covered charcoal or gas grill.

While coals heat, in a large frying pan, cook the onion
and pepper in the oil over medium heat until the
vegetables are softened, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic
and caraway seed and cook until the onions are golden,
about 2 minutes. Add the beer and cook until the liquid is
reduced in volume by about half, about 3 minutes. Season
with the salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and cover
  to keep warm.

Split the sausages lengthwise, but do not cut all the way
through. Grill until nicely browned on both sides, about 8
minutes. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, set the
rolls, cut side down, at the edge of the grill to toast
  lightly.

To serve, spread the cut sides of a roll with mustard, add
a bratwurst, then spoon on the pepper and onion mixture.
