There are big pockets of C.R. type people on the left coast as well. And the
article was from "fiscaltimes" reporting on the C.R. report and giving external
quotes from Yelp - as if *that* were a reliable source of useful information.

I am assuming (dangerous, I know) that the C.R. report was from survey forms
filled out and sent by C.R. subscribers. But, the Yelp quotes were, no doubt,
cherry-picked by Blaire Briody to flesh out and sensationalise the article.

According to Consumer Reports "Of the 24,203 readers who told us about 42,695
supermarket experiences, more than half had at least one complaint about their
current store; almost a third cited two or more. Even high-rated chains such as
Raley's (in the West) and Wegmans (mid-Atlantic) gave plenty of readers
something to criticize.

The biggest gripe overall: Not enough open checkouts, followed by congested or
cluttered aisles and advertised specials that were out of stock. Other
irritants included inept bagging, missing prices, and scanner overcharges. Over
the years, our supermarket Ratings have been very consistent. This is the third
straight survey in which the same three grocers have been at the top and the
same three near the bottom."

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Homemade Cioppino
 Categories: Seafood, Stews, Wine, Vegetables, Herbs
      Yield: 4 servings

    1/4 c  Olive oil
      1 lg Onion; chopped
      4 cl Garlic; minced
      1 lg Bell pepper; chopped
 14 1/2 oz Can diced tomatoes
      8 oz Can tomato sauce
 14 1/2 oz Can chicken broth
           +=OR=+ 
      2 c  Fish stock
      2 c  Dry white wine
      2 tb Fine chopped fresh parsley
      2 tb Chopped fresh basil
           +=OR=+
  1 1/2 ts Dried basil
        pn Sugar
      1    (or 2) cooked Dungeness
           - crabs; cleaned
      9    Fresh clams; scrubbed
      9    Fresh mussels; scrubbed
      1 lb Cod filets; in 2" pieces
      1 lb Shrimp; peeled, deveined
    1/2 lb Bay scallops

  Heat oil in a very large stockpot. Add onion; sautO until
  soft. Add garlic and bell pepper; cook 5 minutes. Add
  tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, wine, parsley, basil and
  sugar; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered,
  for 20 minutes. (The broth can be made ahead at this point
  and refrigerated up to 8 hours. Reheat before adding
  seafood.)

  Add crab; cover and simmer 5 minutes. Add remaining
  seafood, tucking under crab so that it is in the broth;
  simmer 5 to 10 minutes or until shrimp is pink and clams
  and mussels are open. (Discard any that do not open.)

  Serve with lots of crusty French bread.

  Makes 4 generous servings.

  Quick Cioppino Substitute 2 (32-oz.) jars cioppino sauce
  for the first 11 ingredients. Place in a very large stock
  pot. Add 1 cup wine and bring to a boil. Add seafood as
  directed above. Stir in 2 tb. lemon juice before serving.
