That's odd behaviour for ivy. It usually is pretty aggressive and wants to 
take over everything. Rather like a politician with a "cause".  Bv)=  My next 
trip is to a guy I know who is a "Master Gardener" to see what he recommends. 
And if no joy there to the Agricultural Extension Service's chief 
horticulturist. I know him peripherally - but, not as well as the Master 
Gardener.

This stuff is proving as hard to dispose as the Tree of Heaven (what an ironic 
name) that grows between my trailer and the one just to the south. I have 
tried girdling it (cutting through the bark into the pulpwood) and it manages 
to work around the circumferential cuts. I have driven copper guttering spikes 
into the trunk and some exposed roots ... no joy there either. I have drilled 
holes of 3/8" several places around the trunk and filled them with Round Up - 
which has done for unwanted trees in the past. Not this one. That's one hardy 
sucker.

I may be forced to spend a half-thousand with the tree service to get it 
removed and the stump ground out. Then spend the next few years snuffing the 
shoots that will pop up from the *very* extensive root system.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Chile-Garlic Mustard Greens
 Categories: Greens, Vegetables, Chilies
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      2 tb Sesame seed oil
      2 tb Olive oil
      1 lb Green or purple mustard
           - greens; washed, dried,
           - in 1/4" strips
      1 tb Garlic; minced
      1 tb Red chile; minced
      1 tb Ginger; minced
      2 tb White vinegar
      1 ts Sugar
           Salt & black pepper
 
  In a large saute pan, combine sesame and olive oils, and
  place over high heat until hot but not smoking.
  
  Add the greens, and stir vigorously for 1 minute, or until
  they have changed to a bright green color.
  
  Add garlic, chile and ginger, and continue to cook,
  stirring constantly, for 30 seconds. Add vinegar and
  sugar, remove from heat and stir to combine. Season to
  taste with salt and pepper, and serve at once.
  
  Yield: 4 servings.
