Sounds like he was in too valuable a civilian position to get take away
from that.

Good thing you like geneology, keeping big families straight can really
get confusing.

My parents met at a Freshman mixer dance the first week of school in
1946. Mom was just out of high school, Dad graduated 7 years before,
worked and fought in WWII before going into the Reserves and then to
college. They got married in 1950 and Dad claims that for the first 6
months, she fed him nothing but left overs. (G)

I did not mind at all when he went to college. At the time, NYS had a
drinking age of 18 and he'd come home & tell us (kids) about his
drinking. So "worldly wise", that when we toured the Utica Club brewery
and he got his free sample of beer, he was less than complimentary on
it's taste. Me, I was just as happy with the root beer they served to
those under the drinking age (I was 17); beer never was that appealing
to me.
