The costliest thing on the menu except for steak is
"seafood fettuccine in a rich cream sauce"; as I am
looking forward to five plus weeks mostly under Lilli's
watchful eye and jumpy stomach, I decided to get it and
load up on shellfish while I could. When it came, the
portion size looked on the small side of respectable,
but it turned out that the rich sauce was extraordinarily
reduced and heavy (also somewhat leadened with a bit of
flour, but the flavor was so good that that didn't make
much difference). The protein was made up of three 30
count shrimp, a scattering of tiny bay shrimp, a few
small bay scallops, and a couple manila clams. All I
believe previously frozen and from far away but for the
clams, which must have been local. I was apprehensive
about the scallops, but they tasted to be northeast US
Atlantic product, not the mediocre Florida ones nor
worse the rubber-eraserlike Chinese ones. The shrimp
were pretty decent but of unclear provenance - I hope
Gulf but can't be sure.

Annie and Hap were both driving, so they couldn't have
any wine.

Chris had a glass of William Hill Chardonnay, which was
quite light and crisp, though there was a hint of oak in
among the lemony citrusy grassy aspects. I liked my
no-nonsense rather generic Fontana Candida Frascati
better, especially as it was $2 less per glass, so I
had two.

By the way, Annie has a brand new 2014 taxicab-yellow
Kia, which she loves, her Vibe (same kind as my friend
Rosemary's previous car) having gone to AJay, whose
ancient Saturn (a previous previous family car)
recently bit the dust.

Annie had to get back to school, so we said goodbye, and Hap
pointed his chariot in the general direction of the stadium.

I asked him to run me to the Almond Roca outlet, which he
gladly did; it was, after all, only a couple miles out of
our way, and he wanted to buy some snacks for the ballpark
ushers' break room anyway. A somewhat overenthusiastic
cashier greeted us and offered samples of almond and cashew
candies. I had one, or maybe two, of each.

The place offers overruns and seconds of Brown & Haley and
affiliated company products, with Roca in bags or tins or
gift sets ranging from a near-retail buck an ounce for the
fancier presentations to supermarket candy aisle bags with
near expiration dates for 20 to 40c an ounce, a good price
for decent quality chocolate candy. There are also chocolate
toffee flavored wines, which I seriously considered getting
just to try but chickened out. Out back there are seconds in
plain cellophane bags for an astonishing 99c/12oz , so I got
three of these to help feed my ravenous friends whom I am
going to visit tomorrow in Alaska. I tried to pay with my
new snazzy black Alaska Airlines Signature Visa card, but
Hap swooped in and plunked down three singles and treated me.

Back on course to the ballpark.

Instead of spending a zillion dollars on parking, we
parked free at Tukwila and took the snazzy new light
rail to the stadium (the stop is less than ten minutes
from the real thing). It's amazing the number of people
Hap knows and is greeted by - from stadium staff to
vendors both inside and out to fans. All the way to the
stadium he was gladhanded by people who knew and were
glad to see him.
