These issues have all been weighed, years ago.

spendthrift anyway - no home economics for him. He's
in fact obsessed with money.

Cooked? I laugh. One reasons for the kid's lack of funds
is that he buys prepared food.

Braised chicken with mushrooms and pine nuts
cat: Singaporean, poultry, main
servings: 1 to 2

2 chicken thighs
2 back bacon strips (or other fatty salted pork)
1 md onion, diced roughly
2 cloves garlic, minced
10 fresh shitake mushrooms, sliced
1 c dry white wine (opt)
2 c chicken stock, unsalted (to 3 c)
1/2 ts thyme (or a bundle of fresh thyme)
1 bay leaf
Pinch red pepper flakes
Salt
Olive oil
1 Tb pinenuts

1) Heat bacon in olive oil till cooked through and bacon fat
rendered. Remove, slice into 1 cm cubes and set aside.

2) Season chicken with salt and in bacon fat-infused olive
oil. Remove and set aside.

3) Fry onions and garlic in the bacon fat-olive oil-chicken
fat mixture, until onions translucent.

4) Return bacon to pan.

5) Add mushrooms and fry for a min until cooked through.

6) Add wine and reduce by 1/2. Or use more stock.

7) Return chicken to pan.

8) Add stock.

9) Add thyme, bay leaf. Simmer chicken 30 min on medium
until fork-tender.

10) Add pinenuts, and heat through; salt to taste before
serving. Season with red pepper flakes and/or pepper for
a little kick.
