Lot of good things. The car, despite the a/c being on full,
was comfortably, snoozably warm, and despite our having
slept okay, we were very snoozable, and so we snoozed.

We got ours, in a tiny way, later, pulling into a gas
station to fill up (a wise thing after a couple hundred
mountainous miles on the road). As I got out of the car,
a bee (bumblebee at that, normally not particularly
aggressive) flew in and stung me on the pinky. I got
into the bathroom and ran cold water over it and then
asked the minimart attendant for some ice. Lilli
contributed a Zyrtec (I think: I get that and Zantac
mixed up) to the cause, and I had half of it. Worked
nicely. Then it was her turn for the bathroom, where
she stayed a long time - maybe the seriousness of the
situation had hit her.

Hard to say, though, when you think of the people who actually
do get squashed. It's like the Germans praying Gott strafe
England and getting shot down themselves. You win some, you
lose some. I've been lucky (or have a hard-working one).

If everyone had the same mix, there would be no schools
of anything, much less philosophy. Your experiences bring
different things to your equation than mine; also there
are predilections built in from your ancestors, whether
by genes or upbringing.

It was a great time, and the succeeding time as well, and
then this next leg into the Netherlands. Next week Ian's,
then my poor tatty pocketbook threatens to fall apart
altogether.

I read a review of a certain airport lounge that said
that it was just one step up from a refugee camp. It
being admitted that that must have been an exaggeration,
this place was at least two or three steps up from a
refugee camp. And the door locked, unlike the ones at
the hotel in Kodiak a couple years ago (they had just
put in new locks there, but an earth movement apparently
misaligned many of them).

Turned out to be really quite nice.

Yep, that was the original. Cherries, apricots, peaches,
I think all would work.

Here's another kind of pommes you could eat, though:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.00

      Title: Pumpkin Potatoes
 Categories: Vegetables, Canadian
      Yield: 1 servings

           Pumpkin ;(equal parts of)                Butter
           - peeled                                 Bacon
           Potatoes; peeled                         -salt & pepper to taste
      1    Onion; finely chopped

  Pommes de terre a la citrouille

  The directions for this recipe are very loose; Boil together equal parts of
  peeled potatoes and pumpkin. When cooked, drain them, add 1 good sized
  onion, finely chopped and a piece of butter. Mash all till creamy, season
  to taste and serve with golden sliced of fried salt pork or bacon. To quote
  Mme. Benoit, "Grand-mere was a wizard with pumpkin. Her mashed potatoes
  pumpkin french fried chips were super. It's amazing how most of what we
  enjoyed in our youth remains a pleasure as we grow older. In the autumn of
  1959 I made these on my television show. The amount of mail requesting the
  recipe was unbelievable!"
