Zactly...  In times past, we've given cats free run of the cellar, but
not the attic... the current two have been given run of the attic but
not the cellar... at least so far...  Richard's reasoning is that since
they are already proving themselves to be good mousers, maybe they can
help curb the squirrel incursions into the attic...

French and Italian have common origins, but not much interest in trying
to make use thereof, from what I've seen...  Pidgin comes into play to
try to fill in gaps...

Malay and Indonesia etc wouldn't be...?  That was the parallel I was trying
to make.,.. the similarities from common origins with the differences
from geographic isolation of whatever degree...

It almost looks like it was lifted from some sort of blog... :)  Or
non-internet precursor thereto...  :)   UDD sent me to some site once to
view a recipe he couldn't capture... similar sort of folksy feel to it
as I recall...
