=================
Hi Nancy,

NB> RH>> Looks good; we took some friends to a Korean restaurant for
NB> lunch RH>> today. They enjoyed it, even trying a bit of kim chee and
NB> wasabi. NB>> So they were fine with the heat level... good sign...
 NB> :)

RH> In very small amounts, the heat level was OK. He liked a hotter level
 RH> than she did.

NB> It's a good start... they can build up a heat tolerance, if they wish,
 NB> more'n likely... :)

I suspect they won't go much hotter than what they had the other day.

 NB> NB>> What did y'all order...?

RH> Lunchtime special which started with miso soup, then a sort of bento
RH> box with the meat, salad, fried squash (and I think sweet potato),
RH> rice, man do and a mushroom, battered and fried with a very sweet syrup
RH> poured over it. E had the bulgogi, I had spicy pork, Steve had a spicy
RH> seafood combo and T had teriyaki chicken.

NB> Nice selection... Did you trade tastes for greater exposure...?

Steve and I traded bites, they traded bites but they didn't want to try
any of our spicy meats. We knew what theirs tasted like so didn't try
any.

NB> Were the kimchee and the wasabi part of the bento box, too...? Or
NB> were there still the "little dishes"...? Sounds like this place has

The wasabi was just a small pea sized bit in the "bento box"; the kim
chee was one of the little dishes. We were given 4, since it was a
lunchtime meal, would have had more had we gone for supper.

 NB> a strong
NB> Japanese component to it, too... Similar to what we used to have when

A few Japanese influences but strongly Korean overall.

NB> Yang's (across the street from the Soeul House where we took you)
NB> became Japanese/Korean cuisine... Sadly, they've been closed since
 NB> 2005, and
NB> Mr. Yang has since passed on...

Sigh!

NB> RH>> They're leaving the area soon but intend to try and find a good
NB> RH>> Korean place in their new location.
NB> NB>> And now they have something to compare to... :) I see the
NB> NB>> immiment move finally pushed up the urgency level... ;)

RH> Very much so; they're leaving the area the end of next month. He will
RH> be commuting for this semester's classes, not sure how he will take
RH> spring semester classes. He will graduate next spring, if all goes
RH> well. In and around everything, they have to pack, have medical
RH> appointments, his classes start on the 18th, etc, etc.

NB> Pretty busy time for them, to be sure...! How long a commute is it
NB> from Charlotte...? That will be a strain, I'm sure... but hopefully
NB> not too much of one. :)

It'll be abotu 160 miles one way so he will come up, stay for 3 days (2
nights), returning home on the 3rd day. It will be a strain but he wants
to finish his degree this coming school year.

 RH> Still, it was a
RH> fun time to get together and have the long awaited Korean meal.

NB> Nice that it worked out... and that it didn't end up being a regretted
 NB> lost opportunity... :)

Only down side is, that we won't be able to do it many more times, if
any.

Catch you later,
Ruth
