I hear you. We have an ancient (probably cheap, even) one in a dining
room window that came with the house (we bought the house 38 years ago).
It can substantiate the feeling that the heat should have come on hours
ago, and let one know that a jacket is definitely a good idea for
outside... ;)

NB>> So if you'd kept it, you'd've needed to release one of the other
NB>> ones.. like with the frypan... :)

RH> Basically, and all the others are flat ones. I keep them in a rack on
RH> top of the dishwasher, same counter top as the dish rack is kept on.
RH> Out of the way but handy when I need them. The refurbished board would
RH> not have fit into the rack because of its feet.

Less convenient, even if it was a very nice one... :)

NB>>> So you'll be using it for a dough bowl now...?
RH>> Steve used it to mix up some bread yesterday; see his message to Jim
 RH>> for the recipe.
NB>> And he told me how well it worked for that, as well...

RH> The bread is gone; it made four rounds. Two went down to some Afghani
RH> friends; we kept 2 and finished the last with supper tonight. They're

Nice thick pocket bread... :) Good for substantial fills... :)

RH>> a bit longer before going back to school so we're pretty well set on
RH>> things like fry pans. My favorites are my 9" and 10" cast iron pans.
NB>> Some might have worn out their favorite ones... ;)

RH> It's possible; our first cookware set lasted only 5 years. We were
RH> given a teflon lined, lightweight aluminum set as a wedding present. it
RH> wasn't the best on the market by a long shot so when it began to fall
RH> apart, we replaced it with the Rangetoppers.

I'm still using a stainless set that Richard's mom had bought and rarely
used, so passed it on to us. I had a cheap aluminum set of pans, bought
when I got my first apartment (or maybe it was for Richard's first
apartment, when I was helping him cook.. by the time I got mine he was
living at home so I got the supplies) that actually still are in use
too, somewhat dented, but they didn't have a lining, so they still work
for some things. The largest one became Richard's dedicated stovetop
popcorn maker.. :)

RH>> We're hoping so. After my QoV session today he lifted the case with my
RH>> sewing machine, a travel iron, current project and some other minor
RH>> things into the car before I got out there.
NB>> One at a time, probably didn't stress the limit too much... :)

RH> No, they were all in the one case that he lifted into the car. I semi
RH> read him the riot act but figured he wouldn't have, if he knew it
 RH> would cause pain.

Sounds familiar. Pushing the limits, but hopefully carefully... He
probably figured out some way to lift it without bending or twisting,
and was prepared to not continue if it did cause pain... :)

RH> We took that machine (by itself, with the controls)
RH> to be serviced yesterday; I put it in the car but Steve pulled it out
RH> at the place where it will be worked on. Just a basic tune up and
RH> tweaking of the tension; its gotten a lot of use this past year.

And you have plenty more projects planned, for which you need it in good
working order... :)

NB>> True... hopefully we'll be getting answers soon... :)

RH> And I know we'll be seeing the report here. Hopefully it's good news
RH> and Richard can go back to a semi normal routine.

Hopefully.

RH> Is he using this time to try any cooking?

Nope. He's still leaving that to me. We did get one meal from the
church this week, giving me a little break... :) One of our
gluten-intolerants from church made us a chicken teriyaki with rice.
She used a low-sodium soy sauce, so it wasn't too salty. I hadn't the
heart to tell her that we prefer dark chicken (she made a point of
telling me that it really was white chicken breast, just that the
teriyaki marinade made it look dark) and brown rice (she made white
rice, of course). It was tasty all the same, and made two meals, as
there was plenty of it. The second night I tossed in some fresh
mushrooms (after steaming them) to balance the sodium even further, and
make a little variety.. :) We certainly appreciated the thought and
the love behind the meal. :)
