====================================================================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> I saw Steve's decision to back off on that experiment due to the
NB> NB>> urushiol issue... That does put a damper on things... ;)

RH> As of now, dead in the water. But, better to be safe, than sorry.
RH> We don't want any trips to the ER as a result of a cooking echo
 RH> experiment.

 NB> For sure... :)

So I'll just enjoy my roasted, salted cashews and not worry about them
going into milk.

NB> on NB>> that with my grandmother... I'd ask who she thought I was...
NB> as long NB>> as she was still willing/able to talk, she'd have some
 NB> sort of

RH> We'd most likely get a blank stare if we asked her who she thought we
 RH> were.

NB> Perhaps, but also possibly worth a try... :)

Whenever we get up there again, and right now, I've no idea when that
will be. Don't want to go too late in the year as the chances of
encountering snow increase greatly after the latter part of October.

NB> NB>> (revealing) answer... that was how I tracked how far back she'd
NB> NB>> traveled since the last time... In your mom's case, it might
NB> just NB>> get the answer that she does recognize you for who you
NB> are... And NB>> it may just be that your telling her who you are
NB> sufficiently lodges NB>> there that she could bring it up for your
 NB> brother later... :)

RH> It may have just been a good day for her when my brother visited. We
RH> probably are lodged in some recess but bringing it out is nigh on to
RH> impossible at this stage of life.

NB> She might still surprise you... esprecially if you luck onto a good
NB> day for her yourselves.. :)

We might surprise us, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it.

RH> Sounds like you've got the genes to live into your 90s. My dad's folks
RH> both passed away in their 60s so having my folks around into their 80s
RH> and 90s is doing well.

NB> Maybe. So far it kinda does look promising, but one never knows. :)
NB> Daddy ended up with Parkinsons, and passed at 86 (almost 87), Mommy's
NB> still going relatively well at almost 85 herself... In any case,
NB> we're both talking about our parents getting past the 3-score-and-10
 NB> mark. :)

Yes, and that's good. More people are reaching it these days but not
always in the best of health. OTOH, some reach it, and beyond, with
nairy an issue.

NB> is more NB>> likely to be appreciated by the persons... And possibly
NB> have ways of NB>> interacting with them to draw out some sort of
NB> response... :) Of NB>> course, just because it gets set before them
NB> doesn't mean for sure NB>> that it would all be eaten... :)

RH> On that floor the residents all seem to be lost in their own little
RH> worlds. They respond at times to the care givers but usually not
RH> coherently. A lot of them have trouble feeding themselves also so
RH> staff does help somewhat, so the folks get some food. Oversized bibs
RH> are a big help there.

NB> For sure. :) Given that the quantity of food actually consumed
NB> (with help or not) probably isn't necessarily quite sufficient, I can
NB> see why the meals might be a little heavier on the carbs... at this
 NB> stage of
NB> life, getting any sort of nutrition into them becomes a challenge...
 NB> :)

Quite a challenge with some of them. Mom seems to be "wearing" more of
her food this year than she was last year at this time. But, she still
feeds herself.

NB> NB>> You've shrunk your tummy, and haven't quite the caloric needs of
 NB> NB>> earlier times... ;)

RH> Not nursing a baby or running after a toddler any more. (G)

 NB> Quite! :)

Don't know if I'd have the energy to do so now.

 NB> NB>> That's a pretty safe assumption... (G) Unless he has someone
NB> NB>> smuggling them in for him, and I understand from the
NB> circumstances NB>> that that is highly unlikely... :) Besides,
NB> there's someone else NB>> preparing the food for him there, anyway...
 NB> ;)

RH> He said it's the same outfit that catered the Empire State Plaza where
RH> he hused to work in Albany at the DMV. So, he's familiar with what
RH> they serve--I guess he used to eat his big meal at mid day, at work,
RH> from these folks. Don't know if it was anything worth writing home
 RH> about tho. (G)

NB> By our standards, probably not... ;) So that outfit would have to
NB> be some sort of national catering service...? He IS still in FL,
 NB> right...?

He is in FL, still in the hospital last we knew. Still trying to get the
platelet count up and blood sugar regulated. Still eating hospital food
which is probably better than anything he could cook but not as good as
my cooking. (G)

NB> Probably serviceable meals, and reasonably nutritious, even if not
NB> something either of us would be particularly enthusiastic about... :)

Probably not, especially if they have him on a strict diabetic diet. (G)
