OK, but they treated Rachel quite well when she worked for them for
several years. She started as a cashier but within 6 weeks was promoted
to head the Customer Service department. Later, when she needed to have
a more flexible schedule for schooling/student teaching, they were very
co-operative with her to set the times she needed. True, they do drive a
lot of local businesses under but so do places like K-Mart, CVS, any
other big chain that moves into a community. One exception I know of is
in the town where I grew up as a CVS and local pharmacy have co-exsisted
for about 15 years. The CVS store was flooded out a few times but the
local pharmacy helped take care of their customers until a temporary
store (perscriptions/refills only) was set up.

I think it's true of a lot of big name brands. Hopefully Chick-Fil-A
will not lose their business principles now that S. Truett Cathay is
gone. Much as we like them (excpet for taking the carrot-raisin salad
off the menu), especially for standing up for closing on Sundays (and
other issues), we'd hate to see them slide down the path so many big
name businesses have.

Pick and chose your stores according to what you want. Do you want to
spend the gas/time running to several stores or go to one? We do a mix
of shopping, depending on what needs to be bought factors into what
store(s) we will go to.

Correction--state market is only once a week, and will close in November
for the season. But, our local farmer's market is weekly, year round
except a couple of holidays.

So he's hawking the ones that the big guys didn't get, and probably at a
decent price as well.
