True.  The real question is more, will he accept it somewhat graciously
or fight against it, making things harder for himself...

Yup...  there's a different synergy at work when caring family or
friends enter the picture actively...  :)

Eating out isn't always the same as eating at home... and sometimes some
things aren't eaten at home because it's seen as being too much effort...

I'd expect you to say (and do) that... ;)   I find it a helpful shortcut
when things get hectic, so I try to keep at least one package in the
freezer... but usually I'd be making my brown rice normally..  :)

Oh, I dunno... one can find better choices there if one looks... and if
autopilot leads him to that aisle, learning to look for better choices
is a useful thing...   :)

Linda and Randy (my friends originally from Florida) think highly of
Publix... :)

In that case, you'll have to let him tell you, I guess...  :)

You can probably start with some basic assumptions, such as ability to
use a microwave...  and what a basic diabetes diet looks like...  and
that he isn't going to be keen on doing quite the regimen you put
yourself on (with Steve's help)... and go from there... :)  Down the
line, he might become interested in actually learning how to cook things
and get more into healthful eating... but who knows.  ;)
