I find it really, really difficult to imagine trying to
use one where the other would be indicated.

You did fine. There's no particular need to buy that
even to taste.

Perhaps, though until recently nobody particularly
cared about corn syrup, high-fructose or not. You
will note that she made free use of ready-made and
perhaps somewhat dubious ingredients. By the way,
she was not my biological aunt but rather my
grandmother's best friend (and showed up at family
gatherings).

My, he's come a long way in a relatively short time.

I had to look that up - the ingredients are brown mustard,
rosemary, garlic, thyme, bay leaf and sage. I'd prefer that
to what in my own experience the Bavarians actually season
their roast pork primarily with - caraway, a spice of which
I am not overfond.

Liz's Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream
categories: dessert, Singapore
yield: a tall 30cm diameter round cake or, preferably
halve the cake recipe for a 20 cm diameter cake

250 g unsalted butter, melted
200 g dark chocolate, roughly broken to smaller pieces
310 ml water
3 Tb cocoa, packed
1 ts coffee
1 1/2 c caster sugar
1 ts vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 2/3 c self-raising four, well sifted
h - Buttercream Ingredients
1/2 c soft salted butter
3 1/4 c icing sugar
1/2 c unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 ts salt
1 tss vanilla extract
1/4 c buttermilk (or, make this using milk & white vinegar)

Preheat oven at 145C (fan forced) or 160C (not fan forced).
Grease baking tin and line with baking paper.

Put butter, dark chocolate, water, cocoa, coffee, and
caster sugar in a saucepan and stir to combine on low heat.
Remove from heat when chocolate and butter have just
melted. Remove from saucepan and cool in mixing bowl
approx. 15 min.

Add vanilla and eggs to the mixture and beat till combined.

Add flour gradually and beat till combined and smooth.
Don't overdo this.

Pour batter into baking tin, bake for 45-55 min (lower end
if recipe is halved, more if not).

Mix buttercream ingredients till smooth with a mixer.

Divide cake into two halves only after it has cooled
fully. Apply a generous layer of buttercream and stack the
two halves back. Cover the cake in butter cream and chill
just to set.

If possible, try not to keep the cake in the fridge too
long, so as not to dry out the cake.
