Nowadays courts don't pay musicians, musicians pay court.

It was considered acceptable practice back then, just
so the reuser added something original and credited the
source. Not so different from latter days, I suppose.

I forget, having read about it between 20 and 50 years
ago in a book of anecdotes, perhaps the Slonimsky one,
which is relatively easy to find, but I haven't found
it lately.

Undoubtedly. And certainly the big busy guy would not
have attended multiple preliminaries.

Forgot to attend - but I also hadn't remembered to get
tickets and stuff, so there was no financial loss from
that quarter, thank goodness.

Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins
Categories: nostalgia, breakfast
Yield: 12 regular or 24 mini muffins

2 c flour
2 ts baking powder
1/2 ts salt
8 Tb unsalted butter, room temp
1 1/4 c sugar
2 eggs
1/2 ts vanilla extract
1/2 c buttermilk
2 c fresh or frozen wild blueberries
Extra sugar (for sprinkling)

Baker Nick Malgieri came up with this formula for Boston's
beloved blueberry muffins, sold at a bakery in the now
defunct department store Jordan Marsh. Many recipes have
circulated over the years, but none that capture the true
taste. This does.

Slide a rack in the middle of the oven. Set the oven at
375F. Line a regular muffin pan or 2 mini pans with paper
liners.

In a bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment,
if you have one (or use the whisk), cream the butter and
sugar until light. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until
the batter is smooth. Blend in the vanilla. Add the flour
mixture to the batter alternately with the buttermilk,
beginning and ending with flour, mixing only until
incorporated. Do not overmix or the muffins will be tough.

Remove the bowl from the mixer stand. Fold in the
blueberries.

Scoop or spoon the batter into the liners; if making
regular-size muffins, one regular ice cream scoop makes a
perfect size. Sprinkle the tops with sugar.

Bake regular muffins for 30 min, rotating the pan halfway
 through baking, or until well-risen and golden. Bake
 minis for 15 min, checking after 10 min, or until golden.

Keep muffins loosely covered at room temperature on the
day they are baked.
