Hi Janis,

>> naltrexone that I take for the MS supposedly causes your hair to grow
>> in thicker. It's done that for me it seems. Still happy we don't

JK> > My hair has always been thin and fine. Steve's is thicker--and the
 JK> girls > inherited that.

JK> So has mine been, all in all. My daughter always had a full head of
JK> thick hair taking after Ron while my son took after me :)

I'm glad both girls got thicker hair; mine has always been hard to do
much of anything with. To get any sort of curl, I need a super strong
heavy duty mega hold perm whereas they both have some natural curl.
Deborah actually looked somewhat like Shirley Temple for a while. (G)

>> have a deer problem though. In town, in Ithaca my daughter does see a
>> lot of deer in her yard, but she has no time for gardening... :)

JK> > Wake Forest has a good sized deer population, including some albino
JK> > ones. Last spring (2013) Steve got a picture of an albino fawn, just
JK> up > the street from us.

JK> I've never seen one :) Interesting that they exist :)

Yes, and to have a good number of them in one area is surprising.

>> Supposed to hit low 70's the next few days, so I'm hoping to go
>> outside and grab a bunch of herbs before the chill hits next week.

JK> > We're in the mid 70s right now, supposed to go lower over the next
 JK> few > days.

JK> It's being reported that this winter will give the NE a reprieve
JK> weather-wise with warmer than normal temps. I can look forward to
JK> that not being a real fan of winter lately :) I'll believe it when I
 JK> see it haha

I don't recall what ours was supposed to be temperature wise but I think
precipitation was to be below normal. Hopefully more in the form of
snow, than all the ice we had last winter. And, I hope the school board
had the sense to build more snow days into the calendar for this school
year.

>> Oregano is a perennial and returns each year...so if you pot some up
>> before you move, it might make it to next spring at your new place.

JK> > OK, I'll have to round up a pot & try to carry some over. If not, I
JK> know > it starts from seed easily enough. We're down to one rosemary
 JK> bush,
JK> > wonder if I can do cuttings from it for the new place or what.

JK> Should work well... you can keep the cuttings in a plastic bag until
JK> you're ready to plant them in a pot with some rooting powder.

OK, nice to know. I've enjoyed having fresh rosemary to use instead of
the dry.

>> weekly newspaper.. not so much anymore with mostly reading news
>> online. I remember being bothered by having to actually PURCHASE
>> packing materials for our last move (grin).

JK> > We still get a daily paper so I've started saving it for the move.
 JK> Since > it's a local move (don't think it's even 2 miles), we won't
 JK> have to
JK> > super wrap everything, thankfully.

JK> That's good. Those kinds of moves are easier on one :) Though I have
JK> so many dish sets that I've collected, I don't take chances with some
JK> of those. Some are pretty old - like the ones my aunt gave me with
JK> gold trim and cabbage-roses on them. These were dishes that in the
JK> 'old days' people got from the grocery store :) Their value increased
JK> because the workmanship was better than one would expect. They are
JK> really pretty. Another set I have was one I bought when Ron and I
JK> married, the company was bought by a famous pottery company because of
JK> the quality of the workmanship again. Each dish in the set shows a
JK> famous English historical setting. Now I can hear it when Ron and I
JK> "go".. my daughter will probably say, "what am I supposed to do with
JK> all these dishes!" Lol - Well, hopefully she can sell them to other
 JK> collectors :)

We have 2 sets of dishes but a lot of books, computer, sewing and
crafting, cooking, etc, etc stuff. But, we will be able to move a lot of
things "as is" and put them in their new location right away.

>> It should.. because it should have branches of the plant with
>> male/female flowers. You might have to hand-pollinate but I don't
>> think so.

 JK> > I may give it a try, probably a zucchini.

 JK> Should work well.

We shall see, probably next year.

>> hehe.. 'tis the season. I picked up two pie pumpkins at the store
>> this week so today I'll bake them. Then we'll have our fix for
>> pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread.

JK> > Our pumpkin is cooked, now I just have to make the pie. Went to
 JK> quilting > instead, today.

JK> That's neat and probably a nice break... I have to see if I can

I got the pie made today; Steve has already enjoyed one piece.

JK> install the software for my embroidery machine on a new laptop... my
JK> older laptop is quite dead. I checked the manufacturer's site and they
JK> have versions for a number of systems so all should be fine. Last
JK> year I also got an old singer athena repaired so that machine should
JK> be useable again which is nice to use for the grandboy's clothes. I
JK> started a denim jacket for Ron this summer that I have to finish soon
 JK> as well.

Nice, to be able to do that.

>> (g) I do remember bringing several summer squash to the Doctor's
>> office one year.. they were very very happy to get it since those who
>> worked full time didn't have much time to garden. I also brought it
>> to the dentists office and they were equally happy to get it (g).

JK> > I could also take some to church--enough folks there that would
 JK> > appreciate it.

JK> Yes, I bet they would.

We did that with avocadoes in HI every other year. (G)

>> Sure. I'm talking about when the plants go in, in the early spring.
>> It can be helpful at the end of season as well, but you don't normally
>> see it then. Probably because most people grab the veggies as soon as
>> they're ready :) That's what I do at least.

JK> > I think Dad waited until all danger of frost was over; I don't
JK> recall > him doing any cover ups in the spring, just replanting if he
JK> did get the > late frost.

JK> That works as well - if he did cover them, he probably got out there
JK> really early and removed the covers. These days I don't worry about
 JK> it so much. :)

Got to let some things slide. (G)

>> miss here as well.. my grape arbour! It was so great having it in
>> Windsor so I do plan on getting one in here. I might have to wait
>> until next season though since this fall we're trying to get that
>> house in Windsor on the market, or rented. Not sure yet which way will
>> be best, but it's still taking up a lot of our resources right now.

JK> > That is probably quite the "fun" process--at least you're close
JK> enough > to the house that you can go down and take care of
 JK> maintainence &
