Ärende: Sunday dinners

We usually went to my grandparents for Thanksgiving, and had to eat
things we didn't like, like sweet potatoes, turnips, lima beans,......
I don't think any of us 5 kids likes sweet potatoes to this day. I like
turnips now, but still don't like sweet potatoes or lima beans. Yes, we
got full, but it wasn't what we'd like to have been full on. (G) The
rare times my mom cooked Thanksgiving dinner, and her Christmas dinner,
she'd set pickles, olives, cranberry sauce and celery sticks (left over
celery from making stuffing). We'd have a bit of stuffing too, but
otherwise it was the same old mashed potatoes & gravy, a vegetable and
the bird (turkey or goose). But, we did have food on the table.

Similar tastes or not?

It was just her and Dad, plus whoever was there for Christmas, only as
long as they were there. IOW, no cookie distribution outside the home.

Yes, she had begun to slip by then but we weren't picking up on it that
much. A bit later, looking back, we'd realise the cues we'd missed or
attributed to other reasons. With the cookies, it was more of a case of
availability, as with any sweets, "they're availble, I'm going to eat
them" sort of reasoning.

That too, to a limited extent. Usually I keep a towel on the top to
protect the surface from my knife block, napkin basket, paper towel
holder and whatever happens to land on it. It has a fold up shelf that
runs the length of the back for small jobs but the other night Steve
cleared it off completely and made a batch of bazlama bread on it.
